Going to fulfil his potential?
He has so much ability but seems to lack concentration at times..Undoubtedly he can be the best defender we have had in ages,
I think the incidents with Barthez in the C/L damaged his confidence.
He hasn't looked so convinving since.
Hopefully this is down to the fact he hasn't played to much this season..
Come on Wes fulfil that potential your team needs you.

I remember when he first came on the scene a few years ago and played at right-back and looked to be an excellent prospect. Unfortunately for him, he then got a bad injury and had a long lay off.

His comeback was impressive after such an injury and he put in some fine performances alongside Jaap Stam at the centre of defence but then seemed to lose confidence when Stam departed.

Since then he's been average imo and doesn't seem to be making much progress. His performance for England recently was poor to say the least. Maybe if he was part of a settled back four with an experienced defender alongside him, he might well flourish.

I remember him staring a few games at right back I felt sure he would go on to make the position his own
Hopefully he will return to that form possibly in an England shirt returning next season back to his very best

too young to give up hope on. hope saf can find him his best position. he's been up and down in the last few games. he needs to play along side a strong organizer.

he has all the ability and physical characteritics of THE perfect defender unfortunatly for UTD, US and ENGERLAND he doesn't have the brain or mentality to match - he panics and it often looks as though he is lost or is just plain stupid. I REALLY HOPE HE CAN PROVE ME WRONG THOUGH.

THE PERFECT DEFENDER = WES BROWN with LAURENT BLANC's brain !!

He did great for us at the end of the season, after being out of action (again) for a long time. The fact that he came on briefly against south korea and looked sloppy doesn't detract from that - they all played shit. I think his tackling for us at the end of the season was its usual very high standard, but his passing seems to have taken a dive due to lack of practice - but that is to be expected. He needs a complete season without injuries to get some momentum going and improve his game. Hopefully he'll get that next season.

Good luck to him. The pressures at the top in Footie are immense.
Small wonder he had a bad 23 minutes.

You talking about John O'Shea?

Nah I think you mean Mexes, I cant think of one weakness that Mexes has apart from inexperience and French-ness.

Brown will come good unless he is a moron, he'll grow up. Just get a good coach in.

Agree. 22-years-old is still very young for a defender. He still has many years in front of him and he will surely get much better when he get more experience behind some world class defenders in our team (such as Blanc).

don't panic Wes will come good again and return to the form of two seasons ago when he was stopping everything in its tracks and in Le Saux case having to be carried off after three seriously hard tackles - does anyone remember that game at OT?

Personally I don't rate him. He started out all right at United until he scored that late own goal against Valencia. Since then his confidence has plummeted. His performances for England in the last two games for example, leave a lot to be desired.

Indeed. We could improve the existing squad 25%+ without the need to spend millions.

Brown's not the only young talent at OT who's not made the progress he ought to in the last few years.

One criticism a lot of people have levelled at Wes, is that he doesn't intimidate anyone.

In fact, he looks something of a wuss. And according to one of the Sunday supplements, he is "So fearful of his club boss he once dropped and smashed his mobile phone when he was shouted at by Sir Alex Ferguson."

Can you imagine Bruce, Pally or Stam doing that?

I think he should crunch some unfortunate striker and get sent off. Then he'll be a man.
;)

No, seriously.

Wes is great. Have a little faith !
I think Alex will buy one great CD this season, and rotate Laurent and Wes, 'cause one of them is one the way up and one is on the way down, then buy another CD next summer if Wes or John O'Shea couldn't make the grade.
