Is there a lack of world class talent?

Yes, footballers have any flair or individual skill trained out of them these days.

Coaches want tactical pressing bots who'll play the % decision always. All lead by stats. Work the ball for cut backs and very high xG chances.

It's a big reason why a lot of games are super dull now as well.

I think the bottom level has improved which has meant there's a lack of top quality showing.

I do think football and sports are going through a transitional period. A lot of goats are retiring soon or retired recently (LeBron, the top 3/4 in tennis, Messi, CR7) that it'll take a bit of getting used to that the top level isn't as elite as these aliens made it.

I mentioned in another thread that I coach under 10s and none of them have a favourite current player. Theyre all retired or about to retire players.

It's just much harder to stand out now. So many players from the past wouldn't have stood out half as much today.

Especially the dribblers. It's a lot harder to dribble past all the super athletic defenders every team has these days, even the bottom half sides.

Players don't dive in like they used to, don't sell themselves. They press the space and restrict you. They are so well organised at it at all levels.

I can count the number of current world class talents in world football on one hand.

Zirkzee, Yoro, De Ligt, Mazraoui, the fifth I'll be able to confirm very, very, very soon ... hopefully.

Year on year it's becoming increasingly harder to call Football the beautiful game anymore.

do you agree with most modern scholars of the game, that this is all somehow chelsea’s fault?

It's a transitional phase. When Maradona, Platini, Van Basten and the others retired, it took a while for Zidane, Ronaldo Nazario etc. to appear.

Now Messi, Cr7 are in decline and it takes a while for another generation as good to emerge.

Aye, they get it trained out of them by being over coached into systems from 7 or 8 years of age.

If you don't bow to the system you won't make it.
