Nope smoking banned completely in the stadium.
Trying to get into a cubicle of the toilet at half time in old trafford is a nightmare now, you have to bang on it for ages and some guy comes out with smoke bellowing everywhere.

You think thats bad you want to try Gigg lane if you want a smoke
officially you are not even meant to smoke in the surrounding area that they own OUTSIDE the ground

I'd have to say that the density of the 'smog' in the bogs at half-time is now a lot less.

First few games of the season and you were struggling to see the far wall and your eyes could start stinging.

shit thing... can you drink some brew while watching footy?

Funny thread this!

Me and a mate did the day-tripper from Dublin to the Champions League game a few years ago against Stuttgart - spliffed and boozed up for the duration of the journey!

Have to say - Wales looks beautiful whilst on some goooooooood shiiiiiiiiiiiiiit!

We smuggled a small bottle of Jameson's Whiskey into the stands and puffed away on a few ciggies also.

Talk about the Old Trafford Experience!

Wouldnt do it now of course - i'm much more mature than I was a few years ago

I used to smoke a crafty one in the stands until the stewards got a more strict. I guess it's pretty obvious when there's isolated smoke signals coming up from the East Stand!

This might be off the subject, but in every airport the smoking bar is always packed 24 hours a day, I wish I could have a bar that smoking was allowed in it would be awesome

Are you very young or do you only have a 6 month memory? It's only been banned since July!

I live in Colorado where it has been banned for like 3-5 years, and nor do I smoke cigs that is, I just need to figure out how to get a special license so I can allow smoking and be able to sell liquor, kinda like a hooka bar.

If it helps, I went to a bar in California last year where every employee weas made a partner in the company. This meant they had no employees and smoking was permitted. Don't know if that works for you!

That's a smart move, but there is no way I would allow some illegal alien busboy to be a partner in any company of mine

 Don't employ illegal aliens then, you cheapskate!

I'd try not too, but I was thinking I could use them for a couple of months not pay them, and then report them to the INS and get them sent back to Mexico, and not have to ever pay them:p

Dont be giving the Glazers any more ideas, i could see them making the South Stand a smoking area and charging an extra fiver on top of the ticket price for the privilige of being able to smoke at the game.

no since its a public place and smoking is banned is public places

It is not banned because its a public place
Some clubs have banned smoking some haven't

I'd say it depends ont he design of the stadium - I'm pretty sure there's no way that Old Trafford, for example is less than 50% enclosed (apart from maybe the South stand), so the ban is probably law, whereas some small clubs still have stands that don't even have a roof, in which you will legally be able to smoke.
That said, United, and many other clubs, took the decisino to ban smoking anyway well before teh las changed.

As far as Im aware smoking is not allowed on the concourse as its all enclosed
As for the rest of the ground that is up to the club and where they want to designate as a non smoking area

As I said earlier Bury have also done the same but also gone a step further and also designated the land outside the ground as a non smoking area
Which would be a bit like United saying the forecourt at Old Trafford is non smoking but i think that would be a bit more dificult to police

Definitely illegal on the concourse, but as I say, the steep slope of the roof at OT makes it pretty unlikely that it meets the 50% open requirement for smoking to be legal.
The whole shape of a stadium makes it a pretty hard call - is each stand a building, or the whole stadium? If it's the latter then it is 100% enclosed, but only has a partial roof. All very confusing, and the FA guidelines don't make it any clearer!
