Just watched this for the 1st time and thought it was tremendous. So many different stories of love and friendship with loads of fun thrown in.

Truly a fantastic ensemble cast for a UK film who all take their small parts with some lovely scenes.

I had a quick think of other Christmas Films from the UK but apart from The Holiday I couldn’t think of a competitor.

I love bad Santa as well. The animation klaus was super well done on the more child friendly side.

Home Alone
Krampus
Bad Santa
Rare Exports
Nightmare Before Christmas

Those are the ones I usually gravitate towards.

More like 18 (or potentially 17 if it was filmed way in advance of it's release), but that's still surprisingly young.

Maybe it was 17, but either way it’s crazy. She was only something like 5 years older then the little boy who had his first crush.

Also that famous scene with the writing on the cards was creepy as feck.

I should say, I do generally enjoy the movie tbf, but there’s definitely some questionable elements.

I guess she passes as early/mid twenties in the movie (or that's how I remember it anyway), but the casting is a bit questionable. The actor playing the guy who is secretly in love with her is 12 years older than her!

Yea exactly, that’s what makes it creepy, also the guy she married is presumably the same age as the creep.

It's an absolutely awful film. You saw no problems at all with any of the relationships or how they came about? McCutcheon apologising for being sexually harassed was a low point, along with creepy stalkerish behaviour being presented as endearing.

And that gimp getting invited back for a foursome, or was it a fivesome, with a load of hot yanks is where it really jumped the shark.

She'd already done Bend it like Beckham and the first Pirates of the Carribean movies by then as well!

Keira Knightly was 16.
as a wise man once said, “when cherries are red, they’re ready for plucking, when girls are sixteen, they’re ready for…”

That scene hasn't aged well and the fat shaming language about a character who was perfectly normal is a bit cringe. But otherwise it is still worth a watch (but not every year if you have a choice).

It's incredibly dated. All of the storylines are cringe and stupid. I hated the film then and hate it now. My boy below shows how stupid it is in a cheerful, fun way.
