I'm too young to remember the bland 70's and early 80's, so have never seen United as a mediocre side.

I haven't seen a United side play this poorly in a long time. But Is this nessacerely a bad thing? If our empire does start to crumble;

Thousands of Day-trippers converting to Arse fans.

Slogging it out every season pushing for europe, and a decent cup run.

NOT known as a business.

Getting the original Club Crest back "MANCHESTER UNITED FOOTBALL CLUB"

Getting back the Roar of the Stetty.

Gfactor86 getting a season ticket :D

Of course its a bad thing if the empire crumbles.
We are the biggest footbal club in the world, we shouldn't be a mid-table team.
In the bad old days we didn't have the stars we have now. The players we've got will turn it around.
A good win tonight and at the weekend and our season will be off and running.

There is one huge reason my ever-so-wise cousin pointed out to me when I uttered those sentiments a few days ago gfactor. Unlike the 80's our wage bill today demands success. If we miss the Champions League two years running we'd make Leeds and Chelsea look wealthy. We can't afford mediocrity anymore, not since we started paying Beckham and co mega-bucks. That is why as fans we have every right to demand 100% effort every match nowadays. Those lucky gits have the very existence of our club reliant on their performances, and they sure as hell get rewarded for it. They can't always play well, but they sure as hell have to give their all.
