Serious question...

Nope.

If that were the case, he'd have simply gone on his hols and come back to a press conference announcing he quit to go to OT. Ridsdale wouldn't have fired him even if he found out DO'L was going to quit because that would nix any kind of compensation claim etc.

The compensation issue makes sense, but from DOL's point of view, if he asked to leave his new club would have to pay for him as well right? According to the official version, they are leaving by mutual consent, so nobody owes anybody anything. Why would DOL allow this mutual consent thingee as he would lose out on quite a bit of compensation money unless he has something else on the table?

But playing Devil's Advocate as to the possibility of the improbable...

1. Fergie did want to quit. Although the official reason for the turnaround was that his missus persuaded him otherwise, the general feeling was that United had not been able to persuade their managerial target to come. So...moving upstairs or reverting to his contract as ambassador is not unthinkable.

2. DOL was rumoured to be a strong contender at that time. He is youngish and yet did not lead his club in a downward spiral like...say Robbo. Ideal for continuity in the eyes of the PLC.

3. DOL still gets to use Rio as his CB.

:p

Especially as Leeds have paid DOL 1.2 million in compensation for breaking his contract and are citing sacking him as he hadn't won anything at Leeds. That would qualify him as Man Utd manager then?

I'm always one who likes to read between the lines. I seldom believe wholesale prepared club statements. Having said that, if the club paid compensation to DOL, then I feel that it could have been the sell/no sell Rio issue then. Hmm...

It is possible... but so is Heskey becoming the league's top scorer next season.

Anyway, its my b'day so something will happen in any event.

News!!!!.... David O'Nearly will "not" become the new manager of Manchester United. United have stated they are happy with a certain Sir Alex Ferguson, when Mr Ferguson quits they will still not be interested in Mr O'Nearly. Ende.

When Fergie wanted to retire, the Board was still happy with him. The point is, it was Fergie's decision to retire, and that may or may not still be the case.

Anyways, for the record, I'm not looking for any changes in management, just a better defence.

No chance, if anyone's leaving it will be either Veron or Barthez.

This 5th July shite is "really" annoying me does anyone "really" know what it is all about? Sir Alex to be replaced by O'Nearly? No chance.
