Is it just me, or are Italian stadiums never full?

I was flipping channels and chanced upon a Serie A game. The crowd was so sparse that I thought it must have been a match between 2 bottom clubs. I was shocked when the game was between Juve and Roma/Lazio?

Why any player would want to leave England to play in Italy in such circumstances is beyond me.
Money can't be that impostant can it?

:p

Spain on the other hand, is a different proposition altogether.

Then there's this article on BBC

(Worried Inter slash prices)

Inter Milan have slashed ticket prices for the Uefa Cup tie against Ipswich Town.
The Italian giants are worried that Ipswich's 8,000-strong travelling support will make the third round, second leg seem like an away tie.

Inter supporters' imaginations have not been captured by the Uefa Cup this season.

The daily Corriere dello Sport reported that by Tuesday afternoon, Inter had sold just 8,000 tickets to home fans, raising the prospect of a 50-50 split in the cavernous 82,500 capacity San Siro stadium.

The Ipswich contingent will be the biggest away following seen at the San Siro this season, including Serie A games.

The online ticket section of Inter's official website has launched an appeal to encourage fans to turn up.

It has become fundamental to advance in the Uefa Cup

Inter's Javier Zanetti
Its slogan is: "There are 8,000 of them arriving, but there will be more of us - make your voice heard".

But so far the appeal appears to have had little impact on fans of the current Serie A leaders.

Prices for the second tier of the San Siro have been set at a discount 22,000 lire (£9) with other seat prices reduced.

Italians are snobs. Plus the atmosphere in many stadiums is racist, xenophobic, antisemitic. Why would you bring your kid in such filth?

Funny you mentioned Lazio-Juve. Our friend Piersifal claimed it was all full, but pictures prove the contrary. Oh well. <img src="graemlins/smirk.gif" border="0" alt="[Smirk]" />

Not really. If you saw the Barca-Gala game or clips, you'd see that there so many empty seats right behind the goal.

Really? Then either these countries have stadiums too big, their ticket prices too high, or their "fans" too arsed to show up. I mean, its not just OT which has trouble finding space for its supporters right? Thanks goodness for future expansion plans? Can't wait for the day I can go to England and get a seat in OT through (ahem) official channels.

I saw extend highlights, but here's a link to the goals. You could see how the back of the goal is kinda empty:

<a href="http://www.allgoal.org/liga/02-2-2-7.avi" target="_blank">0:1</a>

<a href="http://www.allgoal.org/liga/02-2-2-8.avi" target="_blank">0:2</a>

<a href="http://www.allgoal.org/liga/02-2-2-9.avi" target="_blank">1:2</a>

<a href="http://www.allgoal.org/liga/02-2-2-10.avi" target="_blank">2:2</a>

As I said, it could be snobism, or one of the reasons you outlined. I don't care really.

our stadia are old fashioned 80.000 seaters.

No wonder they look half empty even if 60.000 are there.

Hah 80,000 and I'd still have to buy my tickets from "Fingers" at OT. Oops... "Fingers" by the way, real chappie.
