Is Halo Wars any good?

Thinking of buying it. Can't download the demo as my Live has ran out...

Not heard great things about it really. It's just a standard RTS with the Halo cover. You'll recognise all the people and monsters, but it's nothing revolutionary, and nothing very different.

Is it awkward to use with the 360 controller?

Demo was pants. Would be surprised if it's anywhere near as good as c&c 3 in all honesty

better than what i thought it would be, but its still average, just like the main halo games. Only difference is halo wars hasnt been over-hyped or over-rated.

I found the demo fun (I wouldn't buy it though) - can't you download demos even without gold membership?

It says with silver you still have access to demos and updates etc.
