Discussion Your Lineup Prediction

  • Anthony fecking Taylor named as ref.

We need to start publicly asking for him not to be involved in our games. He is wholly incapable of remaining impartial.

I think (fitness depending) he will go for lads who had more time to train where he can:

    Onana
    Yoro Evans Martinez
    Mazraoui Mainoo Ugarte Malacia
    Amad Fernandes
    Rashford
Second half subs: De Ligt for Yoro, Shaw for Martinez, Casemiro for Mainoo, Garnacho for Malacia and Hojlund for Rashford. I'd expect to see Yoro, Malacia and Mainoo replaced early in the second half if they do get the start. Mazraoui / Dalot is a toss up as well, and they could well both play if Malacia is still a question mark.

How will he line up for the first one?
    Rashford
    Mount - Bruno
    Garnacho - Casemiro - Ugarte - Amad
Dalot - De Ligt - Mazraoui
    Onana
With Martinez doubtful and Yoro just coming back, is he gonna put Dalot and Mazraoui at the back? I'm not sure Evans and De Ligt can work in a 3 man defence unless the wingers sits back

    Personally I'd prefer:

    Rashford
    Eriksen - Bruno
    Garnacho - Casemiro - Ugarte - Amad
Yoro - De Ligt - Mazraoui

With Mount coming on against tired legs to build confidence. Same with Højlund.

I don't think you can play two full backs in a back 3. If it's too soon for Yoro and if Martinez is injured then it will be Evans starting, with Dalot pushed further forward.

Playing 5 defenders against Ipswich would be a joke.

    And Gillett on VAR
Utter insanity an open Liverpool fan is allowed to referee games involving United. And I reject the argument that then he shouldn't be allowed to ref at all because every game could effect Liverpool. Pretty obvious that a fan of a team that's part of the biggest rivalry in the country shouldn't be reffing the other teams' matches.

Playing 5 defenders against Ipswich would be a joke.

I think he'll start like that for two reasons:

Firstly, it's what he did when he first took over Sporting and it makes sense that he'll want to start from the back here too. It's difficult to get people to buy into a system if you start with the attack and it's getting rinsed in defence. Get everyone familiar with the defensive shape and responsibilities and then add more attacking emphasis as players become more comfortable in their roles.

Secondly, these are largely the players who were available for training this week. One of Mazaroui or Dalot will be coming in relatively cold yes, but a right back playing right wing back is less dramatic a switch than expecting Garnacho to play LWB after one or two sessions following international travel. Maybe he'll play Antony in one of the wide positions but I don't think I'd bank on it just yet.

The 343 or 3421 is going to be the shape whatever happens, whether its Ipswich we're playing or Real Madrid. If he's not going to pick 5 defenders, who can you see him selecting in those roles instead after barely a week training half a squad?

To answer your question, whoever it is that he plans to select next week. There’s no rule to say that players returning from international duty don’t start games, they usually do, and I would expect it to be the same. Perhaps even a working theory that the player picked to play for their countries are probably amongst the better ones, and if not, the players not picked have been injured and lack fitness.

I don’t know who he plans to play long term though, it’s not a formation I am particularly looking forward to seeing and based on the composition of the squad, it is likely to lead to 5 defenders more often than not I suspect.

There's definitely no rule that says players returning from international duty don't start games and usually they would. But common sense says that players returning from international duty to a new coach with a significantly different tactical setup, might not get picked for this game over guys who have had an extra week working on the new system.

I'm certainly looking forward to seeing how the formation works. I do expect it will be a bit more defence focused than we would like during these early weeks, but I can live with that while it's bedding in and I reckon a side with 5 defenders but with better coaching and attacking structures can be far more effective going forwards than a side with 4 defenders and the sort of attacking direction we've seen over the past couple of years.

I reckon we will move for a real attacking wingback, perhaps as early as January and I also think once Amorim feels confident that the team is comfortable in the new system, he'll look to select at least one attacher to a wingback role in games such as this weekends.

Find it unlikely Garnacho will play as wing back. I'm going for:

    Onana
De Ligt - Evans - Martinez
    Mazraoui - Casemiro - Ugarte - Dalot
    Amad - Fernandes
    Rashford
I think Rashford gets the nod up front on account of having trained a few sessions in the system and being less fatigued from international break and travelling. Will be really interesting to see the team selection.

Well I can only hope really. We are a team that has struggled to score goals for 3 years now so I’m just not that enthused to going to 5 defenders on the pitch, and also 433 is just a personal stylistic preference for me I guess.

2 of the youngest coaches going head to head. Should be a good game. Expecting us to score a few goals in this one

    2 of Jose disciples apparently.

I’ve changed my prediction line up line 5-6 times already. Just hope whoever he plays shows they want to be there and gives 100%.

This will be the easiest line up for him with players coming back for international games as an excuse. Soon players coming back from injuries full squad it will get really interesting.

I’m so excited for this game that I’ve realised that we should just sack our manager and bring a new one for every game.

Ya that team won’t be starting anyway

Whoever plays in this will be motivated, that will no doubt last for a small while. The key is can we adapt to this new style quickly prior to any big setback.
Hopefully we have enough quality to beat an Ipswich team that will be pumped and have a vociferous crowd behind them.

Can't wait for this to start!!

Do not think he'll deploy an unusual tactic immediately. Think Amorim will set us up with four at the back with a view to alter the shape in-game.

    Can't see a big win.

    Tense.

Would be odd if he spends all week training with 3 at the back only to revert back to a formation he’s unfamiliar with on game day.

Probably best to predict at least one goal for Ipswich then.

We should win purely on just the effort I expect to see with a new manager. Please don't let us down!

This is doing my head in picking a side. New system, players coming back from injury, is Martinez fit, will he pick the ones he has trained with the most, Rashford up front or on the left, where does Garnacho fit in, etc, etc. My brain hurts.

    My line up prediction.
    Onana

    Yoro. De ligt. Shaw

    Maz Ugarte. Casemiro. Antony

    Amad. Bruno

    Rashford

Feel he will go heavily with the players he has trained with. I understand Shaw and Yoro may be risky but they have the pace required for the rolls.

Also Rashford as he will be fresh over a Hoijlund who has had an international and not been very consistent so far.

Antony at WB as the more attacking option which could actually be good as he will be forced outside on his left and as mentioned by others his defensive work is decent.
