I'm starting to convert to the dark side after previously and still to some degree thinking iPhones are over-rated.
Does anyone have any idea or could give an educated guess as to when they will be releasing the new model in the UK? Is it the same time as the release in the US (predicted around June 2010)?

Heres whats expected for the new one anyway:
Lots of speculation is going around on the new iPhone 4g! Verizon Wireless is currently testing a CDMA version of the iPhone 4G and Verizon confirms they are making network changes to bring the iphone onboard. The new iPhone 4g is going to be loaded with awesome new features like video chat, multi-tasking and extreme downloading. (List of possible features below). Just when you think there is nothing else to come up with, more and more and more technology comes out. And it is on the rise, and not just at Apple, Inc!

Woo hoo! This iPhone 4g could also have dual core processors and higher and powerful graphic chips that can deliver higher video resolutions and better "still" images when taking pictures.

There are a few networks working on building a 4G network. T-mobile would be a likely carrier since they are GSM already. Sprint has a 4G network already... AT&T and Verizon Wireless are in the beginning stages. There are talks of Verizon Wireless getting iPhone sometime in 2010 since the exclusive contract with AT&T expires, but it could be renewed until 2012.

Rather or not it will be 4G will be up to them!... can they build in time? Regardless, there is much anticipation on how many people will leave AT&T for Verizon Wireless because of AT&T's lagging on MMS (pictures inside texts, or Multi Media Messaging) and app restrictions like Slingplayer and Google Voice.

AT&T's restrictions have caused the percentage of people that are JailBreaking their iPhones is on the rise since Jail Breaking usually comes with Cydia which is the app store for jail broken phones. Most of the applications, ringtones, and even iphone themes!...are free with Cydia. Winterboard is part of the download, and it very easily add's the changes to your phone so you dont have to figure how to do it on your own...it is VERY automated.

The Palm Pre on Sprint (Sprint now offering a 4G network) has made an attempt at being competitive with iPhone and Blackberry...but it's not looking good. Maybe their recent Android phone will help.

iPhone 4G looks promising in terms of being sleek, packed with new hardware and multi-tasking software. Very exciting.

A few features of iPhone 4G:

A new, sleeker body design.

OLED screen.

Multi-Tasking. (use multiple functions at once without going in and out of apps)

iChat camera (on the front so you can have video chat!!!)

32G (basic) and 64G of memory. Your sure to NEVER run out.

REMOVABLE BATTERY!

Video Camera Capabilites.

Messaging light.

True GPS built in.

A standard headphone jack!

The NEW iPhone 4G - Coming 2010

If you think they're overrated and unnecessary, then I would suggest getting an iTouch (shudder... iSomething) which is cheaper and pretty much the same, unless you really want the phone and camera.

I don't think they're unnecessary as such, just think they should use fully upto date technology instead of drip feeding it us to make people buy the latest one. The camera's the main thing, as I use my phone for taking pictures quite a bit. My phones got an 8mp camera at the mo so it's quite a big drop in quality.
But then again, they are really nice to look at and to use and I quite like some of the apps. They also have a certain air of superiority and flare whenever someone whaps one out.

I won't actually use it as an iPod so much because I've already got a Classic and I wouldn't be able to get most of my songs on a new one as they all got wiped when my hard drive went knackered.

My phone has already got all that, unlucky.

Who's unlucky?
That's just on top of what it already has and all we already know at the moment. I'm fairly sure they'll be more features than that added/improved.

I just find it funny how Apple release all these features years after every other top of the range phone has had them.

That's what I was getting at above, it's pretty annoying, but if you've played around on an iPhone for more than 5 minutes you can easily see it's appeal.

Better camera, ability to zoom and ability to change message tones would be a start.

I think the camera is the thing that's stopping me from buying one right now. If this new one has at least a 5mp cam I'd definitely get one. There's no reason it can't have one other than Apple money grabbing.

They should start working on a battery that doesn't die after 30 minutes if you use it or something silly like that.

one complaint i have about the iphone? the yearly updates piss me off im on a tight budget i cant afford that shit

Hopefully this will be the first iphone available on networks other than AT&T. If it is, I'm definitely getting it. I have heard that as a phone, the iphone sucks though. Can anybody confirm this, or is it maybe just the AT&T network?
