Well, we have Totti vs Del Piero thread, aswell thread about Baggio. Nowadays Italy can't be so proud of their attacking players, but in the past there were others who could tear apart defences of the world and score goals for fun.

So, who was better? Super Pippo or Bobo?

Some stats:

I will never forget Vieri missing in WC 2002 V South Korea.

Vieri. Inzaghi was a poacher, Vieri had more to his game.

Vieri was more impressive at his best, but Pippo Inzaghi was just born to score goals, and did it consistently throughout his career, being a handy player for a top club at a ripe age.

Inzaghi, he was able to score, not on purpose. And it seems that he was always scoring when his team needed it the most.

Vieri was the better player but if i wanted one man on my team to get me a goal it would be Inzaghi. He always scored against big teams and did very well in Europe.

Neither, Simone Inzaghi was better than both

Vieri was had a bit more variation to his game and was a lot stronger, he scored some fantastic goals, but there was just something about Filippo. He always had that knack of just scoring when Juve needed him to. The sight of him Thuram, Del Piero and Zidane always used to fill me with fear in CL games. Also, Fergie famously said "that boy must have been born offside" about Inzaghi IIRC.

Vieri by some distance. A target man and goalscorer rolled into one.

Vieri's peak was better but it was short and he did not live up to his accumulated fee but strikers are judged on goals and whilst that was pretty much Inzaghi's main feature, to score goals, Vieri still scored more.

It's not even close - no offense to Pippo, who was fantastic at what he did, but Vieri was much better.

Vieri is like a left-footed more-skilful Drogba. And Drogba was a monster CF.

Inzaghi the king of offsides
I remember one match i think it was in the UCL
he was offside like 6 times

Inzaghi. feck football's antipathy towards poachers. As if goals don't matter. Damn hipsters...

Vieri had a better goals to game ratio than Inzaghi for their clubs. 236 in 476 for vieri vs 288 in 623 for Inzaghi. Inzaghi score more goals because he played a lot more games, not because he was the better goal scorer.

Also their international stats are very similar. 25 in 57 for Inzaghi vs 23 in 49 for Vieri. 9 goals in 9 World Cup games for Vieri is fairly incredible.

*All of these stats are from Wiki and might be bollocks.

Easily Bobo Vieri. Strong, deadly, a bit nuts.

Scored some absolute stunners too, like this one:

Serie A was so good in those day.

Not even close. Vieri dominated the league after Batigol left. He's held in the same regard in that aspect.

No contest. Vieri was amazing, Inzaghi delivered for years and years in spite of being only ok.

Inzaghi for me. He seemed to be able to score every time his team needed him.

I remember him against Ajax on 2003. Milan were getting eleminated but he score in the last minute and then they went to win the entire tournament. Or him scoring with his arse against Liverpool in the final.

Had a hope that Chicharito will become our Inzaghi but it wasn't meant to happen.

Vieri was a far more all rounder (to be fair, my mum may be better in football than Inzaghi) and was good at everything but Inzaghi had that magic that only a few players have. To score regardless of opponent, and to score in the big matches. And it was funny how a player who was so bad in many aspects of football, was one of the most deadliest player around. And also to see him scoring from an offside position while he had already being stopped for being offisde on a few occassions that match. And also to see him pissing on the pitch.

As others have said, it's not even a contest, Vieri shits on Inzaghi

edit: also isn't Vieri Italy's top scorer at World Cups? What did Inzaghi do for Italy?

Indeed he is. Joint top scorer with Rossi and Baggio.

Inzaghi wasn't ever that good for Italy. I think that he played in a couple of them, but scored only one (against Czech Repulic in 2006). He was like 6th choice for Italy back then (after Totti, Toni, Gilardino, Iaquinta and Del Piero).

Yeah, probably a reason for that... Inzaghi wasn't that great

Vieri for me. I used to love watching him play even though I was young. I was introduced really to him through the world of Champ Manager when the Inter team was stacked up top

He was quite old back then though and wasn't a starter at Milano. Although next year, despite him being a bench warmer, Ancelotti decided to start with him in the two most important matches of the season, against us and Liverpool.

Inzaghi was really great. You don't score more than 300 goals and win a shitload of trophies, including 2 UCL without being great.

Vieri was awesome, just had attitude problems. Mercurial sonofabitch. A bit like Totti, in many ways. Weren't there rumours he was into cocaine, too?

In terms of natural talent, Vieri stands a fair way in front of Inzaghi, but Inzaghi obviously had the better career.

My mind was blown when i first heard Vieri speak and he had a full blown Australian accent.

Vieri was a monster of a player. Him an Boksic had me scared shitless when we played Juventus in the mid 90s.

Vieri by a million miles.

My initial reaction was to say Inzaghi, but then looking at those stats he may just have made more of an impression on me as he played in the Champions League far more.

Haha was going to mention that! His brother played for Australia too.

On topic, Vieri was better but I really admire how Inzaghi used his limited skill set. Was it Cruyff who said "look at Inzagi, can't pass, can't run, can't dribble but he's always in the right position"

Actually just found quote. “Look, actually he can't play football at all,” offers a presumably deeply frustrated Johan Cruyff. “He's just always in the right position.”.

Inzaghi may have been limited but he did have a good goal in him now and again.

Just looked at Inzaghi's wiki. I consider him a Juve player, but he was at Milan far longer. Never realised that.
