Introducing..Janelle Monae

I've had her album and EP on my iPod for a while now, she's really good. A lot of the stuff on there, especially the track you posted, sounds very much like "Hey Ya!" by OutKast or "Smiley Faces" by Gnarls Barkley, both of which I love. Or if you're into Stevie Wonder or Michael jackson, you're likely to find something on there to your fancy.

Cold War is probably my favourite tracks from her album;

The best thing about her however, is that much like Andre 3000, she likes to play with a wide range of genre's to find a mix that works, so there are elements of Indie, R&B, Soul, Funk and even Folk on a couple of tracks.

Another good artist of this ilk is Erykah Badu. Both have worked with OutKast in the past.

Seriously loving her stuff

I agree with Easy V.

I don't like Hip-hop, but this album's good because it mixes sounds from different genres and doesn't sound like your typical pop record.

I've been wanting to post her latest album on the 'Listen to 1000 albums' thread for the past week :lol:

Probably one of the best album releases this year IMO.

Album snippets

Finally got around to giving The ArchAndroid a listen tonight after having fallen in love with the track Tightrope ages ago, and I have no hesitation in saying that it's the best album I've heard all year. She's got a superb voice and the album traverses every genre and style you can think of. The highlights, however, are the upbeat dance numbers like Tightrope and Coldwar.

She must deliver a brilliant live show. I'll pay whatever for a ticket if she's in Melbourne any time soon.

There can't have been too many better tracks released this year better than Tightrope, surely?

Three weeks on from my previous post and I'm still obsessed with this song.

Come Alive is a beauty as well.

Yep, some good stuff on there,

i think some of it falls a little short on punch, but a lot of eclectic mixes on there and she has a great voice.
