International Rules - Australia V Ireland

End of third quarter

50-33 Ireland.....we finished that quarter very well....looked like the Aussies we're getting on top there

thought we already had a thread up about this?

ah well, it's a delayed telecast down here im melbourne. the first quater's just finished... so no point in me doing 'match commentary' like last week.

bastard TV stations.

Your keeper's a gun.

Loved how he got cleaned up (albeit not too badly) but got up with a 'got some more, mate' type of smile. Love that stuff.

It was bound to happen, that being Australia catching up. Our fitness levels are absolutely elite, most players run 12+ kilometres a game.

GREAT goal from McGinnly (sp?) in the second quater. Great bork/side-step to get past the defender.

I thought Australia were going to win it at the end, especially after they got the goal. Great game. Canty was immense.

Canty played like one of ours. Tough at the man AND the ball.

True that, didn't quite know where to post in.

BTW, Canty got player of the series. He's a gun, should've come down our way to have a crack at the AFL, definitely would've fitted in.

Canty had a stormer of a series, we're all pretty proud of the lad & of course the rest of the lads & backroom team aswell!

As far as we are concerned Cesc - our game is a helluva lot better than your game, so although you can earn a good living from your game - money isnt everything & most of those boys know it!

You should download some Gaelic Football games so you can see what makes these guys play for pride, passion & feck all money!

The Bloods. I just do, don't ask why because I wouldn't be able to give you an answer.

Another note, I was a bit peeved when I switched on SEN for a little bit of Victory vs Adelaide action, only to hear the international rules.

Yeah he was a moster, I loved his attack on the ball (and consequently the man too).

As far as your second comment goes... Well, clearly a debate's not going to get us anywhere, especially as we love our HARD fast contests. But what I do love is the pure passion that comes with playing Gaelic, it's more localised, the players are playing for THEIR town and with that comes a different type of passion.

As for the AFL, well we have a drafting (and trading, but that's typical) system which essentially means any player could go to any club. For example if the best young player is from Western Australia, and the team that finished the bottom that year was from Melbourne, there's a big chance that Melbourne side will draft him into their side. So some players don't quite get that sheer type of passion that comes with representing THEIR town of birth.

And I certainly will be watching/downloading a few Gaelic games, some of the skill on the ball is amazing.

Why would he want to jump ship & play Aussie rules when Gaelic Football is the more skillful game - you should have a proper look at Gaelic football to see why we're by far easier on the eye. Our game is much more free-flowing with no mark - just catch & go like feck :confused::lol:

Wouldn't go so far as to say it's more skillful, you have to watch some AFL to see the sheer volume of skill involved. It's quite phenominal.

Some of the things the top players can do will blow your mind, the burst-clearances out congested packs, the balks/blind turns/pivots/selling-candy etc, there's the bullet passes and speckies! Then there's the huge hits!

There's no other sport in the world quite like it. It has a bit of everything.

I'm going to trall through youtube for some sweet vids.

I quite like Sydney, was cheering my heart out back in '05. feck me Sydney and Eagles have payed some absolute cracking games. And I don't know why idiots complain about their style of play, then the same idiots go on about how the umpires are taking the contest out of games.

(btw, THAT'S WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUUUUUT!)

Garry Ablett Jnr.

This midfielder's the best player in the AFL, currently. He's so quick, evasive, smart and skillful. He literally destroys his taggers... Some of the stuff he does is simply unbelievable.

Coincidentally his father, Garry Ablett Snr is considered one of the top 3 (and arguably THE) best players ever.

Luke Hodge.

(the man's man, any sportslover would want to have sex with him - I can't quite describe how much manlove I have for this guy)

The toughest, and one of the most skillful player in the competition. Hawthorns spiritual leader. Arguably the most versatile player, he can not only play up forward, in the midfield and back in defence, he dominates it.

Hawthorn were the about the second (slightly ahead of the third) best side in the competition throughout most of the year. Our backline was undersized and inexperienced, after recognising the problems we moved Hodge down-back.

Sudden we blew every side we played out of the water, on our way to the flag. He was our best (and probably THE best) player in the finals - including winning the Coleman Medal for best player afield in the Grand Final. This is whilst playing with cracked ribs - ones he copped early in the game the week before (one minute into the vid you see the 'incident' and then him spitting out blood after).

Check the contests/piece of play at 1:27, 2:11 (against the goalie from the first match), 2:40 (which lead to a crucial goal that kept us in the game), 3:31 ().

Ben Cousins.

Where to start with this guy?

I guess, an apt description is he's probably the Christiano Ronaldo of the AFL. He's got the looks, the talent, the drive (on the field) and the bit of bollox that comes with attitude. He runs his guts out all game, gets some unbelievable mileage into those legs. He's supremely skillful and takes the games by the bollox and batters them into submission.

When he plays, you watch. Then you realise you want to be him.

Unfortunately for him he was made an example of by the AFL after his party life-style and drug taking came to the fore. He's been out of the game now for a year and a bit.
