There was an interesting interview with SAF in the paper yesterday. Quite harder hitting for the fans and players IMO.

The important points were:

1) Keane will be kept out until the New Year.

2) Nicky Butt is now out of plaster.

3) If we do not win anything this season, he will analyse it then.

4) He tried to sign a striker during the summer. The deal was nearly done when it feel through.

5) Some players are on trial. He specifically used Veron as an example and made the point that he plays brilliantly in Europe and not so good in the PL.

6) He still rates Forlan and believes he will make it at United.

It was a good read and was an exclusive interview that actaully happened!!!!.

I've posted a lot of quotes from it in the Fergie's mistakes thread. It is a good interview, but I'd add some more points from it.

We don't have money to spend.
He knows the players have lost their hunger.
January won't see players leave, but the summer may well do.
Veron might be one if his PL performances don't improve.
Alex won't leave quietly if we're unsuccessful, he'd rather stay on as long as it takes to build a new team.
His feeling is that he does have to build a new team - not just a squad, therefore regular first teamers will be changed, particularly lightweight ones.

Gudjohnsen, are you sure? i thought it was a world class top name we went for. I thought it was Ronaldinho too but SA also spoke of Totti, why doesn't he just come out and say it ffs and rattle a few cages :p

Who was the striker that "got away" during the summer??

According to SAF, it was someone who had a "great World Cup!"

That would eliminate Gudjohnsen and Totti. Sounds like it might have been a Brazilian. Oh well.

he might still be interesting in aquiring the mystery striker...

In red issue Ferguson said that the striker they tried to sign was before the world cup and that he went on to have a very good world cup.

So it wasnt Michael Owen.

Or Gudjohnsen.

Has to be Ronaldinho or ????

I heard that it was Del Piero, but then everyone hears alot of things.

i thought he did alright for the minutes he got..

you think he was crap coz he didn't even get to play.

Italy didn't use him too much.. if Del had been there regularly i believe they would have gone further.. he's a big game player, he can come up with the goods when needed.
