From TeamTalk:
United's bad weekend has been compounded with the news that Ronny Johnsen is a major doubt ahead of Saturday's crucial game at Leeds.
Eight players needed treatment after the weekend upset against Middlesbrough, and Johnsen has joined Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in pulling out of Norway's squad for this week's friendly international.
The centre-half, who has only recently returned to the starting line-up following months on the sidelines with injury, aggravated his knee problem against Boro, while Solskjaer was ruled out after injuring an ankle in the 3-0 win over Boavista last Tuesday.
Roy Keane missed Saturday's 1-0 defeat as he recovers from the hip injury which last week saw him withdraw from the Republic of Ireland's friendly against Denmark in Dublin.
United badly missed Keane's inspiration and perspiration on Saturday, and now there is a race against the clock to get him fit for what has become an 'all-or-nothing' game at Elland Road.
Meanwhile, Ruud van Nistelrooy is another forced to withdraw from international duty and his will spend the next three days in the United treatment room, rather than training with the Holland squad.
England duo David Beckham and Paul Scholes are both carrying injuries and Ryan Giggs was another who needed treatment.
Ferguson will not be able to make plans for the weekend until the international break ends and it will be Thursday before United resume normal training.

PLUS Giggs has now been withdrawn from the Wales match.

None of this is looking good for the first leg of the QF's! <img src="graemlins/nervous.gif" border="0" alt="[Nervous]" />

United players fall injured before international friendly week, hardly a surprise. I'll believe they're injured when they're absent from the team sheet at kick off on Saturday (Veron, Johnsen & Van Nistelrooy were all out of the Boro match last Friday) , Fergie's just keeping his powder dry for the big matches to come.

Why do the press fall for it every time though? When we're off the pace it's reported as a calamity and when we're leading it's Fergie and the players being arrogant and unpatriotic, they should learn to keep the dead donkey (at least the Pool fans would be entertained).

Add Scholes to the list with a calf strain - he won't be playing against Italy (but I would reckon he will against Leeds).

All kidology from the master...no doubt all these 'injuries' will recover just in time for the game. :(

yep, I'd say nearly all of those injuries are very minor knocks used as excuses to withdraw the players from the international friendlies.

it's a stupid time of the season to have meaningless friendlies anyway so no wonder Fergie is doing this.

....we'll find out the truth on Saturday whatever happens <img src="graemlins/nervous.gif" border="0" alt="[Nervous]" />

TBH I was glad when Johnsen withdrew -- I wouldn't let him play in a friendly either.

The fact that Scholes is not playing against Italy would make me think he is starting against Leeds!

gotta agree with the sentiment that most of these guys will recover when competetive matches resume. Keane tends to miss a bunch of friendlies it seems. every time it's the same old story.
