How about this to clamp down on wind ups:

When you register, you take a short quiz to test your support, ie a few United-related questions. If you pass, then you're let on, if you don't, tough luck. If someone who geniunely wants to post but isn't a United fan wants to join, he can tick a box saying "not Utd fan" and it will show on his profile, so people will know he's not a wind up.

Im not sure if it something that can be worked into the UBB software though

I mean, Most certainly its a great way of keeping the WUM out but every single one of us could tick that "Im not a United Fan" box if we didn't know the right answer to a question.

how about instead we just clamp down on those posters with 13453454350 different ID's and generally just log in to wind people up?

Hmm, interesting idea...
It's obvious that most supporters of other clubs take names that do not relate to their club in anyway.
I personally think Pires_Arsenal is a true MUsupporter...

Exactly.

Most WUM's are United fans, or specifically, baz , pretending to be someone else for a laugh.
