Spanish World Cup hero Andres Iniesta wants to thank Kasabian for inspiring his team to victory in South Africa by inviting the band out to Barcelona to join in his country's celebrations.

As reported in Spinner last week, Spain use Kasabian's 'Club Foot' to get into the right frame of mind before taking to the pitch, something the scorer of the winning goal in Sunday's final Iniesta is keen to recognise.

Speaking to The Sun, Iniesta said, "I am thanking everybody who helped us win the World Cup. Kasabian were a big inspiration in the dressing room. Their 'Club Foot' has been our choice of song before we run out for about a year now. I want to say a big thank you to them, I want to offer them something."

The band, who managed to watch some of the game before closing T in the Park, were delighted with Sunday's result. Guitarist Serge Pizzorno declared, "We'll play their victory party in Madrid, it's as simple as that."

An excitable Iniesta is obviously relishing the chance to meet and thank the Leicester outfit. "I want to invite them as my guests to come and watch the world's greatest football match between Barcelona and Real Madrid at the Camp Nou," he was quoted saying. "I will even sort it for them to come and have a kick-around on the pitch the day before."

He continued, "We can go out and have a mad night in Barcelona and celebrate the World Cup win properly. They haven't got to worry about hotels, I am in the mood for sharing. They can come and stay at my house so I can show them my World Cup medal and we can have a couple of beers round my pool."

Considered by many as the World Cup's man-of-the-tournament, Iniesta signed off by thanking Kasabian with typical passion, "Greatest band in the world, on behalf of Spain, I want to say thank you. Not just thank you, we love you!"
