Manchester United midfields, and second time competitors in the Marveld Tournament for C-juniors in Groenlo, Ryan Tinnicliffe (captain) and Jason Lampkin look back over their experiences of previous year. Together with defender/midfield Jack Dean, whose visit to Groenlo is his first one, they look ahead to the coming weekend.

He was only eight years young when current captain Ryan was spotted by Manchester United and added to its ranks. Living not very far from the stadium young Tinnicliffe is able to stay with his parents. At weekdays Jack, joining Manchester United at age ten and Jason who started playing for the famous football club when he was twelve, live at a guest family in the neighbourhood of the stadium. Travelling to and from their parents house and training would be too intensive.

On the question if the football players already participated before in international tournaments they do not have to think long. "Dallas USA", tells Ryan. "Barcelona and on Tenerife", completes Jack and "Portugal", says Jason. But Ryan and Jason haven¡¯t forgotten the tournament previous year in Groenlo. "It was a beautiful tournament", tells Jason. "However, it was a lot of rain", says Ryan.

Manchester United¡¯s match against Chelsea, which was played previous year on the Friday evening and ended in a 4 - 4 draw was according to Ryan and Jason their most beautiful game of Marveld 2006. Many visitors who have witnessed it will be able to confirm the boys, because by many this particular Manchester United ¨C Chelsea match is considered the most exciting game of the entire tournament.

This year Manchester United and Chelsea will not meet in the preliminary. However, Ryan as well as Jason and Jack are again looking forward the most to this years opening match on Friday evening, which will be against Bayern Munich. It will be played at 19.00 o¡¯ clock on the Alferink field (main field in front of the stand).

Also the match against Scottish Celtic will become a special one, according to the three English football players. Next to them they will in any case meet Shakhtar Donetsk, Fc Twente/Heracles, and PSV the coming weekend.

Further Ryan, Jason and Jack especially hope for a good and fair tournament. A little bit less rain as the previous year and somewhat cooler as Wednesdays 22 degrees would be nice. But to the boys it is of greatest importance that there will be played a lot. "I hope that all sportsmen get on very well and to see lots of fair play", find Jason. "That there¡¯s not so much diving", Ryan says. "The matches are often at standstill because of diving."

Even chattering on the fields is not appreciated by the boys. "No babbling," Jack resolutely adds. "Let the ball do the talking."

Pals to be rivals for the love of the game

FOOTBALL pals Josh Pritchard and Bradley Robinson are more used to playing alongside each other than against each other.

But now the Stockport pair are set to become arch rivals after being snapped up to play for Manchester United and Manchester City.

While striker Josh, from Bramhall, has been signed up by the Red Devils, defender Bradley, from Reddish Vale, has scored favour with the Blues.

They are two of an entire team of youngsters who have been selected by United and City to train at their junior academies.

The seven-strong team of eight year olds are all members of Fletcher Moss Rangers, who also produced Manchester United and England star Wes Brown.

They dazzled United and City by scoring 135 goals in just 16 games and winning every tournament they entered last season.

Three of the lads from the Whalley Range-based team, including Josh, have now been signed up by United and four, including Bradley, by City.

Denis Davis, Fletcher Moss's coach, said: "I have watched the boys develop over the past 18 months and knew they had something special.

"I never expected the whole team to be signed up though. Normally I just get one or two.

"Admittedly they will be playing for rival teams, but they are not worried about that.

"They are just thrilled to have been given the opportunity to train for two top sides like United and City and do not care whether they are playing as a red or a blue.

"Bradley, for instance, is a United fan but is quite happy to be playing for City as it is the chance of a lifetime."

Josh's proud dad Howard added: "Josh eats, sleeps and breathes football and Manchester United has always been his favourite team so getting to train for them is a dream come true.

"He will be sad to stop playing for Fletcher Moss though. But I am sure it will not stop him staying friends with the other lads - even those who have signed up with Manchester City like Bradley."

The only problem for coach Denis Davis now is finding youngsters to replace the boys next season because signing them all up for United and City makes them automatically ineligible to continue playing for Fletcher Moss!
