'We have been humble, they have got carried away'

Symonds sparked by Indian celebrations

Andrew Symonds says India were carried away with their ICC World Twenty20 celebrations and that has spurred Australia on for the seven-match ODI series that starts in Bangalore on Saturday. Symonds said his team-mates were keen to reassert their power in the 50-over format.

When the Indian players arrived home earlier this week they were taken on a near five-hour ride on an open-top double-decker bus from the airport to Mumbai's Wankhede Stadium, with fans lining the roadsides along the 20-kilometre route. At the official ceremony at Wankhede Stadium each player was awarded a cheque for US$200,000.

"Something has been sparked inside of me, watching them carry on over the last few days," Symonds told AAP. "We have had a very successful side and I think watching how we celebrate and how they celebrate, I think we have been pretty humble in the way we have gone about it.

"And personally, I think they have got far too carried away with their celebrations. It has definitely sparked passion inside of us. It has certainly spiced it up as well."

Australia had a lacklustre time at the World Twenty20, losing their opening match to Zimbabwe and suffering a 15-run defeat at the hands of India in a semi-final. The loss ended Australia's hopes of owning the World Cup, Champions Trophy and World Twenty20 titles simultaneously and they sat back and watched as India went on to beat Pakistan in the final.

"Something gets triggered inside of you, something is burning inside of you - it is your will for success or your animal instinct that wants to bring another team down," Symonds said. "We have been at the top for so long, it is like someone has taken the favourite thing you own from you and you want it back."

feck off, you big oaf.

I think watching how we celebrate and how they celebrate, I think we have been pretty humble in the way we have gone about it.

Hehe.

Hoping to see this XI start tomorrow.

Gambhir
Sachin
Yuvraj
Dravid
Ganguly
Uthappa
Dhoni
Pathan
Bhajji
RP Singh
Zaheer Khan

RP must start ahead of Sreesanth. He's miles better. And if Sreesanth's not going to be using the new ball then Pathan is definitely the better option.

The sixth batsman's spot is a tough pick between Uthappa and Karthik.

Agree about Sreesanth

Don't see us going with 4 bowlers. Put in Powar or Agarkar instead of either Uthappa or Gambhir. Pathan isn't too shabby with the bat so a 5 bowler should be in there. Ganguly and Sachin should open.

As much as I like to see Agarkar play (12th highest ODI wicket taker of all time! 5 behind Warne!) I absolutely hate to see us go in with 5 bowlers. Although with Pathan back this is probably the best time to try this.

Between Gambhir and Ganguly I hope Gambhir gets picked.

Can't remember the last time we went in with 4 bowlers and although I normally prefer 4 against the Aussies 5 is a must imo.

Gambhir will get ass-raped by the Aussies new ball pairing. We need experienced openers. Wouldn't mind Gambhir instead of Dravid actually. I think dravid could do with a little break. his form hasn't been the greatest and a series to rechrage wouldn't be the worst thing.

I hate Australian cricketers. Hope we thrash them.

Hope we lose the series 7-0 and some sense and parity is restored in this cricket-whoring country.

Free-hits in 50 overs cricket? Dumb.

Australia 307.

20-20 is where it's at

Idiot.

Moron.

Spastic.

Lunatic.

Its easy to take your ass to another country and start showing some patriotism from far away.

They way they treated the hockey and football stars for winning thier respective tournoments was disgracefull.

Cunto.

mehro and zing.Upholding the rights and ideals of Indians everywhere.

Congratulations you Texan and Sri Lankan boys.

I think it's better if we all just pretend this series is not happening.

Anyway 20/20 is where it's at.

Hello Cornell. <insert monkey chant here>
Where do you think it went wrong Donado? It seemed to me your middle order were all in simultaneous poor form. Tendulkar looked the pick of your batsmen. Dravid's been lacking aswell recently.

The problem with the Indian side is the commercial aspect of the game. The players are more interested in earning money than performing. Cant blame them. It happens with any human. But in this part of the world, stars are treated like demigods. So, commercialism takes top spot. Same with the Lankan boys. Sanga, Malinga, and Vaas are not performing these days because they are being used in commercials.

We've always been quite shit in ODI's but the capitulation in the last two games has been quite shocking.Compared to the Aussies, we're in the Stone Age in most of the departments and it was stupid to try and counter them on their own game.Aggression if fine but if you don't follow it up with a class performance or even a performance justifying your inclusion in the National team then you end up with a LOT of egg on your face and that's what has happened to us.The veterans like Sachin have gone on with their game and tried to play to the best of their abilities and its paid dividends...Our major problem is the lack of a stable middle order capable of pulling things back after early setbacks. Not one player, save Dravid, who's been in woeful form, has the composure required.

The coaching staff are possibly the most inept bunch of faggots since the glory days of the early 90's and I daresay its idiots like Venky Prasad whore possible for the deterioration of some of the most promising bowlers of the past few years.

Talk about bringing someone down to Earth. Losing 5-2 at home is embarrassing.

Apparently Symonds was a victim of some racism as well. That's quite sad really. What's the Indian media take on this?

The Indian crowds disgracing themselves for the second time running taunting Syminds with money grunts and worse. At least the india authorities will be unable to put their head in the sand this time.

Quality impersonation of jason, btw

Indian folk in general couldn't give a toss about racism, and I suspect I speak for the majority of the middle class too. We're brown, we've handled being imperialised and we now believe that we're in the perfect state to racially mock or poke fun or even discriminate against the Orientals or the Blacks.Even White folk actually. It's a pretty stupid thing, but I doubt anyone actually cares among those people in the picture...for them it's a huge joke.

Agree with that.

I heard the Australian media were slagging us.... What was that all about...

No suprise we lost the series, the aussies are more talented, have a better team-ethic and work harder...

It'll happen again in Mumbai tomorrow, Symonds is going to have a very tough time out there. It's the public's idea of a joke, I doubt it's racist at its core.More of a reaction to the instigation by Symonds in the media.

Every move Symonds made was booed, and he was welcomed to the bowling crease with chants of "Simon, go back".
