India - Officially the Best Test Cricket Team in the World

Yawn.gif

just kidding. more power to ya. can't get my head around cricket.

Meh, i always knew we were the best but we have blown it in the big games from time to time. Hope we improve on that aspect though.

Not for long because we won't play another series for some time whilst others will.

India's best team ever and they're going to be wasting their time mucking about in pointless ODIs and T20s. It's a joke.

The Indian public don't really care for Test cricket as opposed o the shorter versions of the game though do they? We see it in the attendances, although this is by no means unique to India these days.

Day-night tests as a matter of course in some locations?

Maybe a biannual tournament where the top two sides in the rankings play a special series, something for the media and disaffected fan to latch on to. Although how we'd fit it into the calendar...

The top three sides

plus England

That's fecked up Sky's billing of the South Africa vs England test coverage then!

Am watching the last day of Australia vs West Indies now. 330 Australia have to make, just lost their first wicket for 30odd

The pitches that Tests are being played on these days don't help either, the ones in the Windies last time England were out there were offered next to nothing.

And then India obviously notched u 700 runs in Mumbai.

Dead pitches in the subcontinent are really killing test cricket, though I am saying this watching Australia play out a draw against the Windies. Just adds more fuel to the argument that test cricket is boring and lengthy for no result.

Dead pitches?

I thought dead pitches were unproductive pitches where the bowlers go through more than 1 session without a wicket falling.

The Tests that India won were by an innings suggesting that there was something in it for the bowlers. you can't take 20 wickets on a dead pitch can you? :smirk:

is that much worse than places other than the West Indies or Bangladesh?

Thats a fair enough stat in my reckoning. Far off from the "dead pitches" that the sub continent offers.

Why compare it to Windies and Bangladesh of all countries?

And the 20 wickets we took against Sri Lanka in the two tests were a lot down to shit shots played by their batsmen.

India also got lucky in the third test when Sangakarra chose to bat and there was moisture in the pitch on day 1 and we snuck a few wickets in. When we came out to bat, it was a terribly flat pitch on days 2 and 3.

Fact is, our pitches are doctored to last 5 days so that the BCCI can get full monetary benefits from a match.

And we play 5 :wenger: tests till the next cricket world cup in 2011 and 2 of those are against Bangladesh. Rest is all T20 matches and one days.

And just awhile back Dhoni promoted himself again in a T20 match to 1 down to play anchor(while chasing 215 in a T20 match) and completely shattered the momentum. Is the guy a fecking idiot or something? How can he not see that he's ruining the T20 team just to prove his stupid point that the team needs an anchor? It hasn't worked for about 10 matches now.

I said other than the Windies and Bangla zing.

Not possible to get 40 wickets through shit shots alone is it? :smirk:. The batsmen contributed no doubt, but the pitch did its part.

I think they are including an extra two against South Africa next year. Should be a good test that. SA.

Dhoni is an enigma, he seems to have lost that power hitting that made him what he is today. Its all well and good if you're a beven type player if you come in at 5 down, but its useless when you have a huge target to chase. :wenger:

It only adds fuel to the arguement that we need sporting pitches for tests. Sadly, it's probably a pretty difficult logistical exercise to convert the roads they prepare for the pyjama stuff into sporting pitches for test matches when all three formats are played on the same pitch during the course of a season.

Oh, yea, well, in that case, yes it is much worse. The pitches in NZ, Australia, S Africa, England are excellent, aid the bowlers and constantly produce results

And they're just in discussion to have two tests against S Africa early next year. Taking the initiative is good, but it's a waste of time with the kind of pitches they'll prepare. Our roads here in Chennai deteriorate faster than the pitches they produce for test matches. BCCI should look into swapping curators and the guys who lay the roads.

There's nothing enigmatic about Dhoni. . Effective test match player, very good ODI player because he has 50 overs to play himself in and a train wreck of a T20 player. He became popular because of his 183*, but if you dig up an old interview of him, he says that he's always played a slow game and that's his natural game.. he also said that right after the 183 against Sri Lanka, he played a slow paced innings in Pune which went unnoticed. Basically, Dhoni's an efficient player(horrible to watch, though) and it's our perception of him that is wrong.
