I'm looking at something around the 42" mark, price isn't too much of an issue as I just want something that will last and is a quality piece of machinery.

What do you TV know alls reccomend? And if you know of a good home theatre system as well, I wouldn't mind hearing your opinion.

Bear in mind I've got a PS3 to hook up to this thing.

Panasonic Viera - your search stops here.

So LCD is the go I assume? I've been hearing not so great things about Plasmas.

I'll probably get a Bravia.

Don't know if you have Costco over there, but they have the best televisions and the best return policy in the business.

Price isn't a issue huh? Well in that case what about the Pioneer PDP-428XD or it bigger brother the Pioneer PDP-LX508D which is full HD at a cool £3000. In terms of build and performance they are the best TVs I have seen.

They say the bigger you get the plasmas are better. However in 30" range, both are fine. Got a LCD, looks great, especially when watching United!

You don't get plasmas in any size smaller than 37".

I bought my 37" Panny (plasma) about 6 months ago for about £800 including floor stand and it is the best £800 I have EVER spent without a shadow of a doubt.

Anyone, sorry shoudl really say EVERYONE who comes to my house is amazed at the quality of the SD picture. I don't even have HD yet but the picture is truly amazing for DVD and fast moving action. Any LCD I have ever seen has motion blur when watching footy etc. - not on the plasma it doesn't.

In saying that I think LCD are supposed to be better for gaming so if that is your bag it may be the route to go.

Check this website out for reviews. (Top 4 of the top 10 are plasma)

Samsung and LG are great

Samsung/Sony use the same LCD panels as they set up a joint venture company to make them. Sony has recently signed a deal with someone else though, so in the future it will be a little more difficult to tell which panel is in which TV. The only difference between a Samsung LCD and a Sony one in the main is the rest of the electronics that go into making the TV (you are not going to get the Bravia Engine in a Samsung TV), and obviously, the quality of the assembly.

Whatever you buy DO NOT buy plasma 42" or below. The pixel will not be 16:9 (even if the screen ratio is) which mean you would lose resolution watching anamorphic DVDs or Widescreen Blu-Rays.

Well cuntos I opted for the XBR Bravia 40 inch with Sony's Home Theatre System.

Here it is on its temporary stand where my old 68cm piece of shit sat (One can't be choosy over the TV channel in a large family, hence Gilmore Girls :wenger: )

The Sound System sits in its case for another day:

Panasonic are offering a free five year guarantee on most of their LCD tvs for the month of May, might be worth checking out.

I get a much better picture out of my LG 720 50 inch plasma than any of my mates do out of there slightly smaller full HD LCD TVs.
