Who and why?

Seems we have a thread for half of their first XI. Curious to know who people would choose if we could only sign one Monaco player. Mbappé, Silva, Fabinho and Mendy in particular would all probably plug key holes in our first team.

I'm probably leaning towards Mbappé personally, marginally over Silva, purely because I think both players appear to possess the most rare qualities that we couldn't find elsewhere. Fabinho looks like he would complete our midfield, and Mendy is a very talented left-back, but you always think we could find a good left back or defensive midfielder elsewhere, maybe even one I've barely heard of.

Future world class striker in the mold of Henry, i'd sign whatever transfer fee with both hands
 
Mendy came and he gave without taking. Surely Monaco would not send him away.

Probably Lemar for me. You can get what Mendy and Fabinho offer from other players. However, Lemar and Bernardo Silva are probably the best attacking midfielders we could sign. If Mbappe doesn't want to join and if he is preferring Madrid, let him.

More Trezeguet. The guy can really finish.. can't ever see him dribbling like Henry though, that's more our own Martial, if he reaches his potential.
 
Probably Fabinho, as he's been on our radar much longer and fits a long term need. Yeah, we might be able to fill that need with another player, but the other options either seem not to want to come (or stay long term) here or are a bit more expensive.

Mbappe has been a revelation but I wonder if he's a one year wonder and if he really prefers RM, I'd rather not spend so much to rent a player. Plus, the price bantered rather precludes us from signing a few more world class players (like Griezmann).
 
Silva. I like his game. IMO he will improve our attacking game without any doubt.
 
I feel like as they are they complement each other so well.

Pulling them away and sticking one in our clusterfeck of a team will only serve to stifle them.

But if I had one choice it would be Mbappe on the premise that Ibra and Rooney are not in next seasons squad.
 
Silva is what we need most,he's so good at those tight spaces and quick as well.
 
Fabinho, we need a proper DM to shield the defense and he will also allow Pogba and Herrera to have more of an impact where they are needed most.
A lot of folks are saying Silva but I am of the opinion we need a winger more like Douglas Costa, someone who is extremely fast and incisive.
If we get Griezman, Fabinho and D Costa (and maybe a LB) I can see us challenging for the league title next season.
 
Can't I put Mbappe and Fabinho on top of eachother in a very long coat?
 
Mbappe as he is a future sensation but Silva is a hell of a player that has a skill set we lack badly and Fabino is a missing piece in our midfield puzzle. Not easy depends on who is available at other clubs. I'd take Griezmann over any the three.

Between Silva and Fabinho for me.
Right now i'd pick Fabinho - we need more options in midfield and it would also relive Pogba of some defensive duties and allow him to create more chances and dictate the midfield, which in turn would create more goals. (I'm assuming we sign an established striker ala Griezmann, Auba etc)

Mbappe is a forward which would theoretically mean Rashford is more at risk as Martial plays on the left more often, but Rashford is a big part of Mourinho's plans it seems whereas Martial isn't so Martial would be the biggest loser (though probably due to other signings) with Rashford having a role similar to what he's had this season.
 
Mbappe. He will be the best striker in the world in 3-4 years. He is simply that good.

Could play like Spurs do:

-----Pogba--Herrera---- (CM, Fellaini, Pereira, Carrick)
Shaw--------------Valencia (Young, LWB)
----Rojo---CB----Bailly-- (Blind, Tuanzebe, Jones/Smalling)
----------De Gea--------- (Romero)

and just sell off Darmian, Rooney and one of Jones or Smalling with Mbappe and those 3 other signings. Reasonably affordable apart from the massive Mbappe expenditure, since we might not have to break the bank on the LWB to compete with Shaw or the CM/DM to rotate with Pogba and Herrera, maybe more like 90M on Mbappe, 40M on the CB and 15-25 each on the other 2, which is well within our range.

If you assume Fellaini/Pereira can be considered 1 decent player based on their very different skill sets, you're basically at 2 good players per spot, which is supposedly what Mourinho likes, and of course we could easily move back to 4-3-3 by starting that 3rd CM, Fellaini or Pereira (or maybe the CB is someone versatile enough to play DM like the apparently rumoured Dier) and just playing the same front 3, or a 4-2-3-1.

Or a Monaco style bombing forward 4-4-2 with Pogba and Herrera/new CM in the middle, Martial out left, Rashford and Mbappe up top and Mkhitaryan or Mata on the right would probably score a ton of goals.

TLDR: Rashford might have to play wide more but I don't think Mbappe is necessarily a horrible fit.
 
I would sign their youth scout; hell of an eye for young talent.
 
Bernardo is some talent. I think I'd take him, but I think Lemar would suit us a bit better and he's excellent too.
 
Fabinho because he'd allow us to get the best out of our current best player, Pogba.
 
Bernardo Silva. We have two young strikers in Rashford & Martial and don't think we need need Mbappe if they both develop into the players we think they will become..
