If Brown is out for a while

Emerton or Stephen Carr. My vote would be for Carr as he'd be cheaper in the price/wage department and has Prem experience. His injury should heal completely very soon, and he's already playing regularly in Spurs' Pre-Season games. Plus he could probably turn out to be Keano's new best friend. ;)

We were in for Puyol and he's still available. It would require the sale of Phil Neville though I would think.

Jesus christ Neil, why do you think 'we were in' for every player we were linked with?

Were we also in for Rivaldo?

Because the player himself said that he turned down an offer because the money wasn't good enough. Most don't have any quotes, let alone interest from the player.

Sounds quite serious, Wes might have broken his ankle

I feel for the lad, so unlucky

If he is really available I don't know what Fergie is waiting for. This guy is one of the best RB in the World Cup and is much better than any single RB we currently have in our squad.

Good going forward but suspect at the back. I actually see him as a better wide right man than a wing-back. Coly or Finnan for me.

Coly is the most realistic option.

He is a very good player and proved himself at the highest level.

He wants to leave.

His price was quoted at 5 million euros which is not too dear.

Gary Neville is not a natural right-back nor is Brown, they are central defenders period. Buy a proper right-back.

What are you basing your judgement on Coly on ? A few World Cup games ? Doesn't make him Prem class, never mind United. We could do a lot better. He has no great experience and can't speak English. All signs point to Emerton, Finnan and Carr.

finnan would be your best bet...but al fayed might want to make a point and not sell him.

Not just the WC but the African Nations Cup as well. If he can do well in both tournaments, I doubt he's a mediocre player.

Carr is a sicknote and Emerton is too attack-minded for my liking.

Finnan okay.

What signs are you talking about?

We've rather ran out of options really. Just because Puyol said he turned down an offer from United doesn't mean it's true (but the Barca crowd will probably like him better for it).

Anyhow, Barcelona, Fulham and Feyenoord have already played in european matches that will make their players cup tied. I'm not certain which players participated, but if Emerton and Finnan did, they can't play for anyone else in Europe.

Lens hadn't played in the Champions League qualifiers (they finished second last season) so Coly's not cup tied.

Still a big bet, for whatever money.

Nope, Emerton played. It's August already and his team are playing for a Champions League place, why should he sit out in hope that some club comes for him after they didn't for three months?

Carr would be the most realistic imo as Finnan is cup tied from the Intertoto with Fulham. One of the otehr posters called Carr a sicknote, he had a bad injury last season but before that he hadn't been injured and had playedd 100 consecutive games (as far as I remember) He's another Mat Holland. He's also great going forward and takes no prisoners in defence, exactly what we need.

Yeah. but is he fully fit and back to his best?... Sounds like a big risk to take in the current situation.

I had read somewhere that he had sat the match out because he didnt want to be cup-tied???</strong><hr></blockquote>

No, he played against Fenerbahce

That he actually managed ten or so matches for PSV before we signed him. And he wasn't out for as long as Carr.

He's actually not realistic as he's changed his mind and committed to another year at Lens.

Ruud was out for nearly a year with the same sort of injury and Carr has been playng pre-season for Spurs. Ruud came back, Keano came back so I dont see why Carr would be any different and if he's anything like the other 2 he'll come back better than before. I'd love to see him at OT(I've been saying it since my 1st post). he's the kind of committed, hungry, never say die player we need, plus he's a fan :D
