Ice Hockey world championship

I'm watching but atm the games are incredible boring.

Eric Cole is American...

If we win the Tournament it will be amazing considering about 3 of our first-tier players will be there....

Sweden's only NHL player is Alex Steen so you aren't allowed to complain;)

Russia-Finland coming up soon.

The Russians have played breathtaking hockey so far.

Like the old Soviet Team.

The Russians are like Arsenal though, they always play good hockey but they are a bunch of bottlers. And I don't think the Swedish team is as bad as the Swedish media think, we just need a better goalie and a physical defender.

I like ice hockey

Went to a game in Prague, it's weird the way everyone cheers happily whenever the music comes on, however much they're losing by

There was a huge flying inflatable penguin

You have to admire the way the players play hockey so well, whilst also ice-skating

I've tried to watch it but the world championship really isn't an interesting competition. It's false marketing to call it the "world championship" when almost all of the best players aren't there. It's kind of like the league cup divided by ten.

The last goal of the tournament sums it up very well. It was in Gaborik´s style. :D

We did!!!

You canadians were lucky that you didn´t meet Russia in the tournament. The finns were a fecking disgrace in the semifinal against Russia, injuring Russias best defender Markov and their captain Schastlivy on purpose. And Russia conceded the 1-1 goal just because of that Ovechkin was forced to play as a defender instead of Markov.

And then the finns come out and play like a bunch of girls in the final.

 - it's hockey you dumb feck. Russia had a badly composed team with no checking line that could do some police work if necessary. In addition to that the russian pussies were diving all over the ice.

Finland play fairly hard and consequently not even Canada dare to injure any of our players as Rob Niedermeyer did to Forsberg in 2005 as that could easily result in Nash or someone else not playing anymore. Ruutu did well against Jagr last year as well in the olympics :) This is how it works - you set examples early and no-one will feck around with you later. Finland lost against Canada in the final as this is how it goes with Finland and finals in icehockey, playing hockey 10 minutes of 60 isn't enough although they could have equalized there.

This loss is nothing compared to the olympics though when we practically outplayed every single team in the tournament only to lose in the finals against one of the weakest that cheated their way into the final. Start getting used to constantly being on the losing end in the finals now.

I know it´s hockey but for fecks sake Bergenheim or whoever it was went knee to knee on Markov, a player can miss a whole season because of a knee injury like that or possibly have his career destroyed. It´s good to play tough, but to play dirty is not. There was a perfect tackle from a finnish player on a russian when the russian player went up 2 metres in the air or something like that, that´s called playing good and tough hockey. But to play dirty like Ruutu did against Jagr or Bergenheim against Markov
is not tough.

BTW, why do the finns always play soft in the finals? For example against Sweden in the olympics, and now against Canada.

And please dont call me dumb.

It is hard to say why they bottle it in every final - these days its probably tradition, i.e. having lost 6 finals now inlcuding the world cup and olympics so these days the boys don't even think they can win anymore, it is a psychological issue now. Us getting a Canadian coach next year might help us overcome this issue - the skills we already have to win these tournaments.

Yesterday the Russia game played its part though - the Canadians had an easier game against Sweden compared to the Finland - Russia game. The olympics was partly down to bad luck and a tough schedule, i.e. Finland took care of all the toughest teams whereas Sweden lost on purpose games to get an easy schedule. Finland had a nightmare of game in the final and Sweden some lucky shots. Thought the luck had changed now though as we got lucky against both the US and Russia, but no. Anyways, the result is awesome considering the material we had available for this tournament. Our defenders were fecking shite and some of them I hope we never have to see again in the national team.

Considering Canada had pretty much the reserve side playing, other than Nash, Doan, and Eric Staal, the fact that they never lost in the tournament says they played the best team hockey. They even had an 18 yeard old kid playing for them who has never even played professional hockey playing for them.

The Russians pretty much had their entire first squad, minus Datsyuk, Nabokov/Khabibulin, and Volchenkov, and they couldn't get by Finland. With all the talent they had on that squad... Ovechkin, Semin, Malkin, et al.. they couldn't gel as a team.

The best team wins, Canada found that out in the last Olympics by taking a bunch of players who couldn't mesh as a team.
