I am sure that many on here will have heard the news this week that they are being forced into some drastic cost cutting measures.
Now for all the good that programming that Sky has brought us and TV on the internet is a burgeoning industry these days, a healthy terrestrial market must be maintained if at all possible.
It is a pity that their focus has so shifted toward things like X Factor and Dancing on Ice and such, at least when it is to the detriment of drama series which they could once have prided themselves on nigh on 12 months of the year.
No offence to our American fellows on the Caf but although their output can be both highly entertaining and of a high standard, you need some that reflects your nation's experiences and style too.
I know that when something goes wrong at the BBC whinges over the license fee can eb two a penny, but the subsidy is undeniably worth it.
There is speculation that ITV and Five may have to merge to remain viable, and if they need a little extra help along with this, i can see merit in it.
So, what do Cafes make of the situation first of?
And secondly, what are some of you favourite series that ITV [whether under the guise of Carlton, LWT, Granada] have been responsible for?
I almost bought both the entire collections of Inspector Morse and Foyle's War last night but due to a lack of cash had to settle for one.
They could and still sometimes can put out a very decent constume drama [Brideshead Revisited, Pride and Prejudice, Sharpe e.t.c.].
