Hello again you lot. It's been a year since me heart surgery and I'm back workin' for a livin' again. Don't worry I've been lurkin' on the Caf' occasionally but have chosen not to add me six penneth until the season started. (I'll start now with a shillings worth)
It's funny, but not much changes here or maybe it's not funny but comfortin'?
Anyway, there's always somebody whingin' even in the good times and then again some of of us with a perfect view through the ever present red tinted glasses.
Two EPL games so far & twice we saw improvements during the second half. I though we did enough to beat West Brom by a couple more than we did & were unlucky not to have escaped with 3 points against the cockneys weren't you?
I haven't seen the two CL qualifiers but I have seen the goals, followed the tracker & of course read the reviews. I'm glad to see Rio fit again and look forward to him & O'Shea creating a significant central defence equal to anything anywhere. Don't get me wrong, Blanc will get plenty of games this year and deservedly so but (hopefully) so will the young lad O'Shea.
Pity about Wes eh? I was looking forward to him securing the RB spot and keeping both Gazza & Phizza on the bench. I've never been a big fan of either of them but as long as they wear the red shirt I won't slag 'em either! But that said, Phil must be the most awkward looking player on the ball in the EPL. I never know if he's going to trip over his own feet & fall flat on his face or amaze me & run through to score. Unfortunately the latter only happens on rare occasions.
On the other hand I've always been a big fan and ever hopeful for our Mikkey (he's so fine ) He's a bit like the little girl with the little curl in the middle of her fore'ead . . . he can be brilliant but he cam also be . . . anyway, I hope this season he can cut out the mistakes and blossom into the player we all know he wants be!
The midfield quandry will work itself IMO. I can already see Seba modifying his style to better suit the pace in the EPL. He looks hungrier and a bit more aggressive . . . that's a good thing! <img src="graemlins/devil.gif" border="0" alt="[Devil]" />
Nicky's light shone brightly in Japan & has earned more respect but I still think he'll only get to play occasionally. Although with Scholesy out for a couple of weeks maybe he'll get a chance to play himself into the team full time?
Giggsy hasn't changed in years, so don't expect him to. . .he'll always have a few poor (for him) games where the defender has his number & he gets marked out of the game. It's always been that way even before his hamstring problems . . . then again, he'll score a gem like he did the other day. I would never leave him out of my team (although I would not hesitate to take him out in the 2nd half if he's not contributing)
My prediction is that Becks will perhaps have his best season ever, barring injury! That goal scored with his left foot against Chelsea was superb and may well be the catalyst for him becoming truly two-footed . . . just like Sir Bobby did almost 50 years ago!
I won't talk about Keano because he just is who he is . . . I wish he could keep his comments in the changing room but since I don't believe in genies, I'll just sit back and watch/listen in amazement at both what he does on the field and what he says in the papers.
RVN is a goalscorer unlike I've ever seen in a United shirt before. I don't rate him too highly on the ball & he certainly isn't the quickest talent on the team but he makes the ball go in the net a lot so who gives a feck!
I just wish Ole would/could start more often. Like many, I prefer to watch us play the 4-4-2 with Becks & Giggs playing wide alternating in the middle with Butt & Keane & Scholes & Veron, making changes as the game progresses but what do I know? (Rhetorical...do not feckin' answer! )
What to expect from Forlan? I think he'll come good . . . he won't get too many chance though IMO, because Ruud doesn't get hurt too often (I know, but when he does . . .) and neither does Ole. If/when we get another striker they should expect to see plenty of bench time & reserve games. Who will come to do that? Not Robbie Keane IMO.
The only real threat is once again the Arse (and our own occasional silly mistakes). Livershite don't scare me (they were awful & lucky against the Rovers today) They can play well but they won't play well often, not often enough anyway. Maybe against us they will, but not against other teams and not when it matters most.
That's it. . .me shilling's run out! I'll be poppin' in from time to time, see you here and at the "far post" (and probably in Boston &/or california next year)
Oh yeah & don't forget,
