Muppet in Training
God, this rejuvenation in the spirit of our side tickles me with the wildest thoughts. A host of possibilities seem to be opening right in front of us. This seems to be the most exciting thing to happen to us since we got Eric Cantona and then later brought on the Fergie babes into the team in 1996.
A Veron who is inclined to win over hearts in Manchester - who is doing it all as a midfielder; yes who would have thought it, even tackling!!
The defense looks composed with an air of supremacy and supreme confidence of being able to deal with the very best calmly and efficiently. We now have a central backline that is tough to pick out, so many are the options; in all truth, it is unfair to pick one over the other. Each of O'Shea, Brown, Rio and Mikael (without forgetting Laurent, in the background) equally deserve one of the two CB places. FB positions? Between Gary, Phil, O'Shea and Mikael the two spots, I feel can very adequately be filled.
Barthez looks to have put his tomfoolery days behind him, down to taking care of business as he himself knows how to.
Central midfield? Scholes has put back his lacklustre days of last year. And is truly back to his brilliant best. Creative in midfield, going and scoring too. I would not swap Scholes for anybody else in the world. The boy does everything - tackles, defense-splitting passes, scoring with foot (from outside or inside the area) or the head (few better than him). Has to be the most complete package as a footballer in the world today. We are going to have an embarassing situation in midfield shortly with the return of the usual big guns.
Offensively, Forlan is getting settled in and Ruud is going from strength to strength.
On the whole, this team is showing the surest signs of a revival from a deep slumber. And being back to old habits of controlling their opposition at will.
I can't repress a chuckle...
