lets say we have 20m in our summer transfer budget. SAF wants to keep the squad in place and bring in three new young players from abroad. Who would you buy ?

Raoul how much do you think our success or lack of this year will affect saf's transfer thinking and that of the budget suits behind him?
would winning the CL and prem mean they would tighten?
likewise would missing out on both mean saf gets more money to reinvest?
I would like to see Cisse, Queresma and Escude join, but i think these would be 10mil more than the budget you quoted.

Can't really see our success playing into how much we spend this summer - infact I could definitely see us being more transfer active this summer should we go potless again.

We shelled out a good amount last year on Rio, and had Seba and RVN the previous year (although only 15m of Rio's fee was applied last year and the RVN transaction apparently came out of the Summer of 2000 transfer funds).

I'm with Len on this one - Cisse, Queresma, and Escude with maybe Nihat and Duff as alternatives.

I also think that there is a very strong chance that Keano will do an Eric, if he thinks that he can't do himself justice anymore.

Other than Paddy V, I don't really see an obvious replacement.

Potentially 5 million quid over but what the hell :D </strong><hr></blockquote>

but we need another defender and if blanc is gonna leave, getting LB cover would mean we can use tweetie at CB as stopper type figure. escude fits the bill.
bellion on a free is a bonus surely not part of the grand plan for next season if he's so raw.
nihat if cisse does the dirty sounds nice <img src="graemlins/angel.gif" border="0" alt="[Angel]" />

Van Buyten has said that while he would like to stay in France, the move to United is iniment and a big move for him. United has already started talking to Marseille about the transfer. He is a centerback I believe, and he is fairly young (27). Supposedly this guy has played all the backfield positions and is very versatile.

Van Buyten may be worth our while (I've hardly seen him) but surely a 27 year old doesn't fit into the category "new young players from abroad".
Quaresma and a couple of the Ajax guys would do fine. But yes, where do we find the new Keano?

Maybe we should look at Highbury, where they may be forced to unload Vieria because of his salary demands and their cost overruns on the new place. He is 26 and a really good player.</strong><hr></blockquote>

Wishful thinking...If Keano were to leave, then Butt deserves his place. He won't have the same ability to drive us forward but hopefully that won't be too sorely missed with the likes of Veron and Scholes still around.

Maybe Vieira is not the answer to replace Keane, but you have to admit he would be a good addition to the team. He has a terrific touch around the goal, just look at the goal he scored against Chelsea in the FA Cup.
