I know Veron has had his critics, no one more so than myself, but to swap him with J Cole would be a terrible mistake. J Cole's best position is still not decided, he has done quite well in a number of positions without totally convincing. He is not even a regular starter for his England yet. I believe if SAF is thinking of swapping Veron then he should do so for a proven international not merely potential which at this stage is all J Cole is. Remember that in this Bosman era, players are no longer going to stay at clubs for the periods of time that they did pre Bosman. Would a move for a player like Mendietta not perhaps be a better alternative. I think in an ideal world we would cash in on Veron, but ultimately we would not recoup our original outlay.

Roy Keane was nothing but potential when he arrived at united - being at a club like united helped make him the player he is. unless you bring a player like that in and nurture them, how will you ever know whether potential will be realized? I have never seen joe cole have a bad game yet, and thats being surrounded by average players, at united he would have better support and would do very well, especially with fergie bringing him along.
Of all the english players out there joe cole is the only one that looks like a united player to me.
If west ham are relegated joe cole will have to look elsewhere. i would cry like a baby if this happend and he didnt end up at united.

Roy Keane was a full regular international player who had a settled position, had played in a team that had enjoyed a decent run at one stage, so to say he was all potential would be a little unfair. But that brings me to the point I made in my response, Keane was brought to United in a long term capacity, players are no longer bought with that thinking in mind re Yorke, Stam and Cantona. I am not disputing that Cole is a talented player, but to state that you have never seen him play a bad game is taking the piss.

Just a thought, personally i dont know if he will ever become the great player everyone thinks he will, i could be proved wrong and i think he would be an awesome success in Italy, i just cant see him dominating in England, Veron isnt really suited to England either but id rather have Veron than Cole.

Why not RVN for Kanoute or Becks for Carrick while were at it. <img src="graemlins/houllier.gif" border="0" alt="[Houllier]" />

Again, Joe Cole is the only player that looks like a united player to me, i am not one of the fans on here that was moaning about us buying a big name player, united have never had success from buying a bunch a superstar type players, all our success has come from youngsters that have been groomed and bred as united players, i believe that young joe is young enough and good enough to become a top class united player but only if we can pick him up soon. For West Ham to part with Joe Cole there would have to be a REALLY fruitfull deal for them, even offering Veron might not be enough!
Those who are calling Cole crap and not worthy of a place at united are the same fans that want to buy half of Real Madrids team; zidane etc, they want 'big name players' i want players that fit the united team, years ago we brought in players like kanchelskis and lee sharp for relatively low transfer fee's and ended up with a great team. I would read united fans posts on here saying things like 'were the biggest team in the world why dont we have a big name player' the club was pressured into signing Veron by fans like this and to be totally honest im pissed off with them for it, we didnt need veron and still dont need him today, a player like joe cole would have been a much better buy because a good young player can be moulded into a great player but a player like verons mould has already been cast.
To the fans here that mock the topic; open your minds to possibilities, ANYTHING is possible in football. Cantona was bought in an off chance conversation.

Either that or he could crumble under all the expectation.
