Eleven Each for Finalists in Vodafone GAA Hurling Awards

Thursday, October 13

All-Ireland hurling champions Cork and beaten finalists Galway share top billing on the Vodafone GAA All Stars nominations list announced on Thursday.

The teams receive 11 nominations each on the list of 45 players for the awards, the winners of which will be announced live on RTE at the gala banquet on November 25 at Dublin’s City West Hotel.

Eight of last year’s All Stars - Damien Fitzhenry, Diarmuid O’Sullivan, Tommy Walsh, Sean Og O’hAilpin, Jerry O’Connor, Henry Shefflin, Eoin Kelly (Tipperary) and Brian Corcoran - are nominated again for awards.

Three sets of brothers, Jerry and Ben O’Connor (Cork), Paul and Eoin Kelly (Tipperary) and Fergal and Niall Healy (Galway), are nominated.

Cork’s Brian Corcoran who has won All Star awards at right corner back, centre half back and full forward and received his first award in 1992 is again nominated amongst the forwards.

An intriguing and perhaps surprising inclusion among the nominees is Tipperary's gangly full forward Michael Webster, who secured a starting place in Ken Hogan's team in his first year of intercounty hurling.

A total of eight counties are represented in the list of nominees. The counties are represented as follows: Cork (11), Galway (11), Clare (7), Kilkenny (5), Tipperary (4), Waterford (3), Wexford (3), Limerick (1).

How did Waterford even manage 3 nominations!!??
This year was a complete shambles we were useless!!

I suppose Eoin Kelly having an outstanding game in the first game against Cork and Prendergast in the second game against Cork was a factor in their selections, perhaps lack of consistency will go against them from getting an actual award.
