How much will we spend on a CB in summer 2023?

2016: 40m Bailly
2017: 40m Lindelof
2018: None
2019: 80m Maguire
2020: None
2021: 50m Varane
2022: 50m Martinez

All of them (bar maybe Varane) bought to sort out our CB position for the next 10 years. So inevitably, how much will spunk next summer on the same position?

If Maguire and Lindelöf can demonstrate that they can play in a high line: nothing.

If they can’t: £50m.

I honestly have no idea which way that’ll go.

I agree Varane was a bad buy, but surely he didn’t cost £50m? Transfer market has it at 36.

More than we will spend on a right back, a striker, and the midfield combined.

Is it just easier to buy CBs or what? I strongly believe fixing midfield and general play would improve our backline more than buying centre backs.

I've been hanging on about this for a while, we need a DM more than a CM. But half this forum looks at Maguire and goes, on no, we need a CB!

There's a reason why Maguire, Varane etc all look good for England and France and not United.
