OK, I concede that Scholes and Butt are worth more, but £35 mill for Becks, £15m for Brown - come on!
Thing is, it doesn't matter what we perceive as their worth, if we were to sell any of them tomorrow, their sale value would be based on what we would be prepared to accept, but, more importantly, what other teams could afford to pay. No-one could afford to pay £35mill for Becks in a lump sum, and it seems unlikely that Kenyon would sanction an instalment scheme after the Lazio fiasco.
A wave of realism is hitting the football world now, otherwise how could you explain Ronaldo going for 'just' £22m plus a player/£6m after the World Cup he had?
No-one will go for what Zidane, Figo etc went for now, until we get a EuroLeague and the TV money comes flooding back in. As such, clubs are adjusting the worth of their players, apart from the likes of O'Shea or Rooney whose attendant hype inflates their worth.
