How many of you think we'll end up with someone no one's mentioned?

Its mostly all transfer rumours from the web or the press so far. SAF's recent track record suggests that and with absolutely no word coming out of OT, I wouldn't be surprised with a couple of unexpected signings.

Recently, we've had the wonderful Chicharito and the not so wonderful (at least not of yet), Bebe, Oberton. The disbelief at the audacity of the signing of Anderson and Nani and not least Ronaldo.

This time people seem to think there are only a few candidates: Sneijder or Modric; Young or Sanchez; De Gea or ???. Amongst them, a few outside bets like AOC, Adams, Varane, Jones and a couple others. SAF's track records suggests a couple of surprises, doesn't it?

I don't think we will sign anyone

More to the point do we need anyone? the squad is fine at the moment.

Waiting for the bites

I agree. Gibson has all the necessary talent to replace Scholes just as PIG can replace VDS and Bebe can one day replace Giggs.

Young and De Gea are near certainties. Wouldn't surprise if they were our only signings of the summer. Maybe some youngster with potential.

I think SAF tries to wind up the fans and the media and demonstrate how long he can get away without signing a central midfielder.

i wonder if SAF likes his 70 year old arsehole getting bummed by barca repeatedly.

Yeah I think we'll get Young and De Gea, but god knows who else.

We'll end up with one atleast if not two established names.

I guess the question is who do you feel is an established name? As I would say both De Gea and Young are established names yet neither are really the type of player the majority of United fans want (even if a new keeper is a priority)

Personally in terms of a central midfield the only person who's been mentioned with any real conviction that I believe is gettable is Sniejder but how likely is even he?

Modric - clearly not for sale
Nasri - Wenger has said he wont sell, the rumours are clearly agent driven

Who else is there?

there is no excuses for SAF not to buy central midfielders. I look at our current CM its just terrible....

DM: Carrick, Fletcher
CM: Giggs, Anderson, Gibson, Cleverley

Fergie will say he's happy with what he's got, Park can play centrally etc.

.

so he thinks "I'm not bothered about trophies this season, I'd rather prove Oliver Holt for the knobhead he is and muppets on Red Cafe"

I'm hoping that all these names in the media are a good distraction from what we are really doing.

Who else is there though? All the names that are being mentioned are being mentioned for a reason...

Considering the sheer amount of players we are linked with, it would be a surprise.

With the exception of Ozil, normally when we are as heavily linked throughout the media with someone as much as we have been with De Gea they are coming, so I expect to see him here next season.

All of the rest of them are up in the air to me - rumours are getting stronger that we'll sign Young so he is the most likely of the rest, and we've been linked with Rodwell for a long time (although we were also linked with Henderson) but the likes of Modric, Sneijder, Sanchez etc still seem a long way away just now and my gut feel is that it's more media fantasy than reality. It is very possibly all smoke and mirrors and we'll sign somebody completely different.

hopefully we don't end up signing another bebe out of nowhere....

Will end up with one that will make history... good or bad I don't know...

I don't think many predicted us to sign Jones now, so there you go. Him, De Gea and most likely Young are the three players Gill was likely talking about, which I think is a good Summer of transfers, and about £45m outlay as well which exceeds my expectations unless we end up selling more than two players.

No central midfielders, but two who can play in the middle of the park, one as a DM and one as a CAM.

I think we were forced into the jones move by the vermin.

I think it'll be 3 + jones.

De Gea, Young, Jones, *cocks out player, hopefully not modric as he doesn't get me willy up*
