'tis a silly place
I think there's a difference in the way some portray the fa cup.

On the one hand people agree we have had many remarkable memories thanks to the cup, too many to list on this page.

On the other people claim it's losing it's tradition (which it is) and is therefore not worth bothering in (not true).

What's your favourite memory from the cup and where do you stand on our future participation in it? (As in full strength side or weakened).

my fave memory of the FA Cup had to be the giggs wonder goal that beat the arse in the FA Cup semi final replay at villa park. Hard to top that.

I still feel the FA Cup is a prestigious trophy and would certainly luv to win it again. We are still the record holders of the CUp with 10 wins.
:D :D

As for fielding full strength team or weakened, i guess a "quite full strength team" would suffices.

:)

There are at least three memoriable FA Cup win during the time I supported United. First was the win against Crystal Palace after the replay (with Lee Martin scoring the winning goal). This is the first major trophy won by Fergie and people has been saying that if we have failed at that time Fergie may have been sacked.

The second was the won against Liverpool. That's the peak of Eric the King and most of the people agreed that he single-handedly won the double for us in that season.

The third time is in 1999, the semi against Arsenal. First, who can forget THAT goal by Giggs? Also, this win was said as the milestone which has kicked start our terrific end-of-the-season form, finally seeing us won the historical treble after that season.

Have any great FA Cup memories.

We should always play a full team in the competition, as it still is IMO the most prestigious club cup competition in the world behind the European Cup.

Favorite memory is probably that semi-final game against the Arse in 99, especially the way giggs did what he did. :D

Give me a domestic double over the European Cup any time.

Shrewsbury town have just gone 2-1 up against everton...

7th bottom of the third division against 5th in the premier league.

How can anyone not love this competition?

FA Cup vs Chapion's League.

I think the CL has more prestige owing to the class of competition involved, but the chance the FA cup gives to teams who struggle in obscurity is priceless.

Vauxhall Motors beating QPR? - No other tournement gives this opportunity.

It's the oldest cup in the world and that still means a lot to the players, clubs and fans alike.

Every team should go out and out to try win this, the most historic trophy in the world.

It's been a while since we really made an effort to go for the cup. Not since the treble year. It would be really nice to go all the way again. It's a fresh change from the league and champions league. I'd love to see more games like those at Villa Park (99 and last season) etc.

Absolutely! It's nonsense to say the FA Cup has lost its magic, tell it to David Moyes! All this crap started when we played in the World Club Championship in Brazil so had to withdraw from the FA Cup 'cos the FA wanted us to to help the doomed England World Cup bid. The fans at the time wanted to defend the treble.

I love the FA Cup & have loads of memories of great wins (Arse replay, Giggs goal) and dramatic defeats (bloody Sunderland scoring the winner for Arse after Sammy Mac had levelled when we'd been 2-0 down. Still haven't forgiven Micky Thomas for not flattening Liam Brady...)

Bring on the 4th round draw!

:D

Why did we field a decidedly Worthington Cup looking midfield for the second half if its so important .....

The Great Dane saving the penalty in the same match too, what a game that was. :D

It was Pompey FFS! We could have had 4 or 5 in the first half hour, that midfield was running all over them.

It would be untrue to say that the FA Cup still means as much as it did say 10-20 years ago, but that doesnt mean it has suddenly become worthless.

It is the oldest tournament in the world still running, and is still held in higher regard than how the Italians or Spaniards rate their competitions.

It should carry a Champions League place IMO, with just three coming from the league. I mean, the European Cup is no longer for League Champions is it, so surely an FA Cup winning team deserves it more than 4th place in the league?

yeah and the Italians and Spaniards tend to win more European Cups than we do .....

England and Italy have the same number, Spain 1 more!

I certainly think its important and i think we should go all out to win it, its probably not the one Id be most desparate to win but a trophy is a trophy all the same and i wanna us to win them all! most memorable moment, probably Giggsys run when he beat 46 of them and slammed it home to knock out the Arse!

I think it's really important. Its the premier domestic knockout competition in the world.
It was our saving grace in the 80's when we were shit in the league and the FA Cup final is an atmosphere like no other.

Let's just say "You cannot do the treble unless you win the F.A. Cup. ask Liverpool they thought they done the treble

Liverpool thought you have to win the FA Cup and 2 other cups

One of my favs must be that of stormin' Norman scoring that sweet curler past Southall (then almost unbeatable) to beat Everton after Kevin Moran was sent off.

Classic!

:D

Any trophy we will win will be a part of our
history...
We should appreciate everything...Ok friends,
For some lighter stuff...

In the Transfer Forum i had posted a topic

"Real,Juve,Inter fighting for Heskey"

I thought it was funny when i posted it.
read that and have some fun...
bye.....

talking about fave fa cup memories, how come no body mention ole's injury time goal against the dippers at OT in our treble season?

That was a class one too.

:D

Yeah, I was stuck down at my sister-in-law's place, no bloody interest in football, heathens, took me own radio and was listening to 5 live, they thought I'd gone mad when Ole finished the Scousers off, watched the highlights later, the shots of those sad Scousers were fantastic.

Yes indeed :)

Beating Liverpool in the 1977 final is a fond memory. If we'd lost, they'd have done the treble 22 years before we did it.

But the Arsenal semi-final with Giggsy's goal and Schmeichel's penalty save topped the lot.

It's all about tradition. The Cup is worth a lot. From time to time there'll always be another classic. Villa away last season being the latest example.

I agree with Weaste that the Cup winners should get a CL place rather then the 4:th team in the league. I had that exact discussion yesterday.

my favourite has to be Cantona's Goal against Liverpool.

I was watching with 2 friends live on TV - one United fan, one Poo fan.

Our Poo friend cried all the way home after the match.. he's a couple of years younger than the both of us so you can imagine what a time we had making fun of him. We almost convinced him to start supporting United seeing that Liverpool was going nowhere and looked like going nowhere after the Cup loss... Oh how right I have been...

I still think the FA Cup has that magic left in it, but of coz it's very important that big clubs take this Cup seriously. It won't help if the top sides in the EPL start to take it for granted.

I am sure United opting out after '99 was a big scare, but seeing that we just netted 4 goals i'm sure the fun will set right back in.
