Are we in Pot 1 where our UEFA rankings puts us, or are we in 3 or 4 as we had to qualify.

I was unsure, as Liverpool were in a low group last year.......but then they are sh*t, maybe that made the difference.

When the seedings were originally announced, it was said we would be in with the top seeds (our ranking is 2nd only to Real) but then a report on the BBC website today implies we will be in Pot 3, so will face two quality teams from the other pots, including potentially Real Madrid. Not sure if this is correct cos if so Pot 3 would include Bayern as well and probably be stronger than Pot 2.

Anyone out there who knows for sure?

Seedings will be determined once all 32 participants are known. For the draw, the 32 participants will be divided into four seeding pots of eight clubs each.<hr></blockquote><a href="http://www.uefa.com/competitions/UCL/News/Kind=1/newsId=26614.html" target="_blank">UEFA Site</a>

That's how it'd look if the seeded clubs all qualified from the 3rd Round

Could be United, Roma/Bayer/Depor, Milan & Celtic <img src="graemlins/nervous.gif" border="0" alt="[Nervous]" />

From Soccerage:
08/28/2002. Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson says that they will fear no-one in Friday's Champions League draw, despite being unseeded.

Having qualified for the group phases, United face the prospect of being in a group with a fellow European giant, but Ferguson is unconcerned.

He said, "We were not seeded four years ago and we ended up with Barcelona and Bayern Munich in our section. We responded to it then and we will respond to it again. In the Champions League there is no real difference between the seeded and the non-seeded teams - we are just happy to be there."

Please, please stick us in with Munich. I wanna teach them a lesson for once and for all.

So does that mean Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Inter and AC Milan will also not be seeded as they all had to pre qualify?

If this source is true SAF hasn`t a clue in this case (bit embarrassing imo). Real, Bayern and United are all seeded in pot 1. It doesn`t matter if you played the qualifiers or not only the uefa ranking counts (source uefa.com)

I apologise for putting you in the wrong group Davo. You still sh*t though.... ;)

I don't get it! Pot one is for the 8 qualified clubs with the 8 highest coefficients aren't they? Surely we should be in pot one then? <img src="confused.gif" border="0">

I don't, I'm bored of them and their negative tactics. I'd prefer Real, a good test that would be as well as a great game to watch.

Celtic and Ajax please sir. and also Leverkusen - REVENGE IS SWEEEEEET <img src="graemlins/keano.gif" border="0" alt="[Keano]" /> <img src="graemlins/keano.gif" border="0" alt="[Keano]" />

Don't expect any kind of serious answers to your posts when you refer to our manager as "demento" ...

Here is the latest from ITV :-----

Arsenal and Manchester United will both be among the top seeds, meaning they will avoid playing the likes of Real Madrid and Bayern Munich in the first group stage.

The seedings are worked out through UEFA's complicated coefficient system which awards points for a club's success in European competition over the previous five seasons, with the Champions League given far more weight than the UEFA Cup.

Last season, the defeat of Italian club Parma in the qualifying round of the Champions League enabled Liverpool to sneak in as a top seed. This season, four Italian clubs should be in the last 32 and Spanish champions Valencia, who missed out last season, are also there while beaten finalists Bayer Leverkusen now have a higher ranking than Houllier's Premiership runners-up

Sometimes being seeded doesn't mean we will get the easiest group but I don't care because we won't fear anyone as we have a good record in the group phase. One question, will we meet anyone in our Pot 1?
