Inspired by many posts in the forum (devillish, to be more specific), i am curious whether there are many of us that think homegrown talents will bring us more success.

I personally prefer a mixture of both with the homegrown talent being the core of the team.

But i don't support us spending over 15m for proven quality foreigners as they cost too much and will break our culture.

We need someone like Ole, Johnson, Big Pete, and maybe RVN to strengthen our squad and not the likes of Ronaldo, Zidane or Totti.

Totally agree with that.

Homegrown, or unknown/little-known N. Europeans.

(Oops, there I go - being racist again).

i doubt it's racism.. it's more of an understanding of the game that those imbicles just don't get. There are many fans out there who are looking for instant sucess with expensive players. It doesn't make sense because these players will never love our club like the kids who grow up with the team.

Players who come from smaller clubs will also learn to appreciate the magic of a club like United much faster than those super stars in their peak years.

I would be sick of hearing them say "i miss real madrid, juve, roma, etc." while they're playing for us.

I think you need both, sure teams without any homegrown lads do well but to me its not the same, you need some youth lads for lots of reasons.

They grow up with the club, they love the club and are hungry for success because they havent tasted it before.

Also if you have a team without any youth players in it you can kill the hopes of any good young players you either have or want to sign and they go elsewhere because they dont feel they will get a chance.

I have said many times before, we no longer need any more 20m+ signing. We already have enough of them here. If you add up the estimated value of each first team player of us and then compare it with that of Gooners and scousers, I'm sure ours is far higher.

What we lack is steel and speed. Homegrown talents or someone from less famous clubs who have the figiting spirit, potential and determination to make their name here would be perfect for us.

I would prefer it if all Uniteds players came from England

I would prefer it if no players in the PL were forenn

I can stomache a team of British players although there aren't enough good players around so i suppose we have to put up with the overseas trash

 I've always been too advanced for you Stanley.

Thanks for dedicating this topic to me.

My opinion is simple, I WOULD PREFARE HOMEGROWN TALENTS

They are cheaper
Easier to adapt
tend to be more loyal

But being local doesnt always guarantee battling spirit and talent. While bringing in a foreigner doesnt mean youre bringing in a money grabber ( Keane, OGS, CANTONA, Irwin)

My plan would be this

1 Sell all those ( foreigners and locals) that are not up to your standards. They are dead wood and are obstructing the coming of new comers ( local and foreigners)

2 Where possible promote the homegrown talents ( Webber, Richardson, Djordic and O Shea deserve their chances)

3 Always bring in ( local or foreigners) the players that will COMPETE and not COVER a position
( This is the main issue why at OT there is lack of battling spirit)

4 Buy foreigners wisely. You need born fighters who would give their best anywhere and NOT prima donnas

I repeat I Prefare Homegrown players, but better having a dutch who is up to the job rather than a local who is not

I'll feel better if our players came out of the youth system, or had developed themselves into great players during their time here. Somehow. I feel more proud of O'Shea than the likes of Veron because you already know what Veron is capable of before he came. However having said that, realistically I'll want a healthy mix of both.

it's understandble. i'm sure many of us love JOS much more than JSV.. both because of his performance and because he's the first player from the youth since brown to have finally made it to the big scene.

JSV has been keeping his head more or less down to earth tho.. he hasn't really been prima donna IMO and once he starts to perform we'll begin to love him too.

so far i think SAF has bought all the light-headed players who wants to do well for United.. even if he has paid a lot of money, his buys have been pretty impressive in terms of players' personality.

JSV has been very friendly with the press and has said numerous times that he likes United's life. Rio said and insisted he wants to do well here. no need to say anythin about RVN..

maybe Blanc has been the only one so far whom i think will not love this club as much as others.. but his experience will more than make up for it once JOS becomes a regular in the mould of Blanc.

homegrown. can engender more loyalty to the club and a hunger to succeed that purchasing for big money cannot
