This topic will probably mean more to footy fans in the US than in Europe but I thought I'd bring it up anyway.
Do any of you think that the 'impending' arrival of Di Canio will spark a 'hired gun' syndrome in future years?
By 'hired gun' I mean ... when a player is coming to the end of his career, but still has a lot to offer, who is playing for a non-contender and wants some success, is bought by a contender.
It happens every year in the US, especially in baseball. Teams that are approaching playoff qualification trade away some younger talent and/or draft picks to a non-contending team for their best player. Whoever thought Roger Clemens would become a Yankee?
I know PDC would be Cole’s replacement but I think SAF had him in mind prior to Cole’s sale for the CL. He is the perfect player for the role behind RVN thus making Cole’s sale an easy one to OK.
Anyway, this was on my mind so I thought I'd see what you all thought.
