Herr Musk | Fascist

We’re talking about Musk though, not Trump. And small government/libertarianism is 100% Musk’s political inclinations. Him and all the other tech bros.
They are almost joined at the hip, wouldn't you say? Musk has thrown all his weight behind getting Trump elected. He clearly endorses what Trump wants.

Sure he does. But it’s also absolutely clear that Musk is a small government libertarian. He’s probably all the other stuff too. But it’s the small government libertarian stuff that makes me think the traditional definition of fascism doesn’t work here. Not that it matters because we all know what the contemporary version of that word means.

Can someone ELI5 me Musk has said/done in the past year? Specifically the Nazism/Fascism part?

He retweeted someone who said Jews hate white people and show it through immigration support. He was criticised, more pertinently, advertisers left in droves. He eventually visited Auschwitz and Yad Vashem, accompanied by Ben Shapiro, Greenblatt of the ADL, and Bibi. After those visits, he pledged support for Israel, including censoring some phrases on twitter (which he never bothered to do AFAIK), and those three started praising and defending him.

You mean Tommy Robinson? As in EDL Tommy Robinson?

Wtf How does Elon Musk even know who Tommy Robinson is.

I don't think ADF is particularly grating - especially since these days MAGA/GOP are more right wing than the AFD - especially on social policies. I'd imagine that one who subscribes to Trump will naturally tend towards AFD. Nevertheless, if you think the current MAGA is close to Fascism/Nazism then it makes sense to think the same for AFD. I don't think we are there...yet.

None of this paints a great picture but it will become clear in a few months.

Lets wait and see - the US institutions have suffered through bigger crises than this and came out unscathed. One can only hope.
He publicly fell out with Farage specifically on the matter of Stephen thousand names (Tommy).

I'm not sure there has been a bigger crisis than the one US democracy is facing right now.

You’ve got a a lot of Trumpers and Musk fans in Ireland? I’d have never guessed.

I saw this cockwomble in Dublin a couple of years ago:

Yup, common as muck in Ireland. It's really annoying when you've been friends with someone for years and then find out they're a Trump supporting bellend.

I feel like the most blatant, obvious, one was 1860's.

Richard Nixon also tried (successfully in some cases and failed in others), to completely bastardize the US federal institutions.

Edgar Hoover also weaponized the largest combat force outside of the DoD (that he himself setup and built) in the USA to be his own personal policemen and hit squad. It would be the equivalent of Trump appointing an FBI director to stalk, intimidate, harrass and threaten with violence any Senator or Congressman who didn't support him.

The civil war is a fair shout. I wouldn't be surprised if this ends in civil war either though. America is at boiling point.

Nobody is even talking about Trump's comments about Elon and the voting machines.

Someone asked Musk why he was defending the positon of Stephen Yaxley Lennon ....

He answered... Who that?

fecking says it all. .
He is a shape shifter in fairness. A paddy born Stephen ending up as the face of British nationalism under the assumed name of Tommy Robinson is confusing for people.

Because it's a troll. The Dems sent watchers and people to every local election down ballot, had inspections on the voting machines by the FEC, all of whom were Biden picks, and nobody raised a hint of malcontent outside of some incredulous dem party supporters.

It wasn't until Trump's comments that this came to light. It sent non-MAGA into an absolute frenzy, especially on places like reddit. The reality is if there was something untoward, the Dems would have actually picked up on it or the FEC would have done so.

Read some conspiracy theory about how Elon Musk used Starlink to hijack the Voting machines...bizarre.

It's only confusing for the morons who want to side with him. The same as Farage's wife being German.

It's Trump & Musk all over again.....

Everytime someone brings up EDL and Tommy Robinson this classic springs to mind

Meanwhile 15 years later, The "Iraq Muslamic Law" has surprisingly, not been introduced in the UK.

I haven't dug deep into the background history of Elon Musk's family, but from what I did read, it was mostly his gramps who was a Aparthied Loving Right Wing extremist right but he died when Elon could barely walk.

I've encountered people like Elon Musk before - both online and in real life. Miserable sods/Narcissists who just constantly crave attention so they go for the most controversial / "edgiest" / twitchiest views out there, not because they actually believe them but because it gets them attention. No attention is bad attention and all that shite.
Genuinely think Elon Musk just took this shite into real life on a mass scale because he thinks he's immune to accountability and consequence - which for the most part unfortunately isn't wrong.

I'm not defending him by the way - he's a massive cnut and a gigantic piece of shite. World would be a better place without him. But it will take more than a Nazi salute from a known shit-stirring troll to convince me he genuinely is a Nazi.
This is like the argument that people shouting racist stuff to players aren't necessarily racist; they may just be shouting whatever they think will distract the player. That may be true, but they are still putting something racist into the world, thus contribute to its normalization, and apparently don't care enough not to. At that point, there's no actual functional difference with being a racist deep down.

I mean, so if Musk isn't a real fascist but just acting like one, hugely amplifying fascist voices through his platforms and repeating what they say - then somehow that counts less? The end result is the same.
If he is genuinely a Nazi, it will mean the top level of government in the Western World, holding together "Western values", is no longer a paradigm I would ever wish to subscribe to. Furthermore, if it comes out that he is, what I strive towards and my goals and belief system will have to shift completely. My life too. It's important to me.

Maybe a day will come when he it turns out this administration are all genuine "Fascists," whatever definition you want to fetch from that. If that is a case, I will quit my job and never set foot in the United States again.
That sounds more like you're wishing he isn't a fascist, as that would make your chain of comment in work and values end up with fascists at the top. I agree that that's a terrible idea, but wanting it to not be true has no bearing on Musk being one or not.

And from everything he says and does, it's just clear that he is (this my comments just above in mind).

Not in my experience. I don't know anyone who doesn't think they're arseholes.

Oh well. I guess @Withnail can count themselves lucky then.

I’m glad I live in a country where Trump fans are almost non-existent. At least to my knowledge.

Sorry, he's known to us as Stephen Yaxley Lennon

Why is this a thing?

yes, it's his birth name. But like, why does it bother people that people use the colloquial pseudonym name that's been spread across all forms of media for the past 15 years?

Muslamic rayguns sounds pretty rad, to be honest. Like something out of the Dune universe!

Oh, I don't know, maybe because the name and the heritage connected to it shows him to be a massive fecking fraud and a total hypocrite. It shows that to get down with the people he's trying to connect with he has to change his name to something more common and relatable than his posh as feck, privileged birth name.

I mean yes, but when people use "Tommy Robinson" everyone knows who that is referring to and nobody here is actually supporting him. Atleast I hope not.

Yeah I know, it's not confusing at all.

I've seen an evolution since the mid teens in people, started off absolutely fanatical about Conor McGregor who I've always hated with a passion, then went down the Joe Rogan rabbit hole, another twat who I've never liked, then Trump, then the likes of Jordan Peterson, Ben Shapiro, etc (although none of my more working class buddies ever bothered with the likes of Peterson, Shapiro or Musk). It's like people are being dog walked into fascism and it's working an absolute treat.

Because feck him is why. If he doesn't want to be call Stephen Yaxley Lennon, that's what I'll call him.

One looper with a flag doesn't prove a lot. It really is a crack-pot fringe minority. @Raven seems to have fallen in with a bad crowd.
Multiple bad crowds then. Probably doesn't help that I work on building sites but even outside of work, people I went to college with and stuff. People have been infected with what ever the opposite of the "woke mind virus" is... The "sleepy mind virus"?

It could be your age? The only Trump fans I’ve ever met (friends of my wife’s cousin) are all much younger than me. I think it happened because they were in their teens when the alt right as a thing first happened and it seemed edgy and cool. This was before Trump first ran for election. Whereas back then it was barely even on the radar for old cnuts of our generation.

If you're an MMA fan between 2013-2016, McGregor was unironically incredible - still one of the greatest strikers UFC has ever seen during that Featherweight run. Nothing wrong with liking McGregor back then.

For me the calculus is simple. People who live in the countryside tend to be far more right wing than city people.

With Nazi Musk now officially part of the US government, can Twitter/X be officially called state owned propaganda outlet?

I know a lot who have moved that way too unfortunately. It's a minority still but one that has grown massively in the last few years.

I think there’s a lot of Karens on here

The amount of good Elon has done in the world

Surely he’s aloud to be a Nazi Fascist if he wants? He’s earned it no?

I hope this is a good enough argument
Had me in the first half, can't lie

Ugh, that must be tough to deal with. Thankfully, I haven't had much experience of that.

Age could well be a factor and possibly demographics as Raven suggested. I had considered age myself.

Well, nobody I hang out with has any time for Trump but, now that I think about it, I do know a couple who went that way, long after we lost touch. Those two seem to have had a crisis of some sort and spent too much time on the internet. That lunatic Craig Fitzgerald lives around here actually. He used to be a sound fella.

My entire extended family canceled their Twitter and Facebook accounts. Many of them children of my grandparents who fought in WW2 in the Pacific theatre and in Europe. Their disgust for anything even resembling Nazi like behavior has finally reached its breaking pt.

when he did that nazi salute it honestly felt like the first time I’ve seen him express authentic joy

he looked like a happy little boy who got exactly what he wanted for Christmas
