Part of Bennett plans to make it looks like he wasn't in on it. So it will look like the Haitian turned on him, shot him and then erased his memory.

Its quite straight forward. Bennett simply wanted enough of an Alibi so that he could continue working for the company and protect Claire by having her escape. He had the Haitian shoot him to make it look like a real attack and then erased his memory of the incident so they couldn't read his mind and realise it was a hoax.
Well, I'm two episodes behind, so it might become clearer then.
