Now none of you weirdos can complain that noodlehair never did anything for the Cricket loving community

Special prize to anyone who manages to explain how the Duckworth and Lewis rule works. Seeing as how cricket itself doesn't seem to have a clue

Thanks for the Pavillion noodle!
Are you asking what the D/L is or how it works?

Edit: You clearly asked how it works. It's just a prediction based on what the scores are already from the previous overs and the amount of wickets left to what the score would have been if they had been able to finish. I think. Reading back over that, it doesn't look like it makes any sense but it's a bit like explaining the offside rule to someone that doesn't know football.

Bit pointless to have a separate forum for this. There must be only 20 posters genuinely interested in Cricket.

Go and complain about in the poll thread I created not more than a week ago.

You know, the one created especially to decide whether we should have a Cricket forum, in order to avoid people bitching about it when it was/wasn't created.

What's next, NFL forum?

So bugger off out of here if it upsets you.

I'm not a cricket fan but the Ashes is a big deal and people enjoy it so stop spoiling their fun. We have an other sports forum, a general forum and an entertainment forum and those aren't to do with United. In fact the football forum and half of the transfer forum isn't to do with United so perhaps we should get rid of those?

Tell you what I'll exclude you both from the forum so the sight of it doesn't upset your sensibilities. Fair?

Like Cricket do we?

Tennis is better

Do we ever play a country that didn't used to be Colonial?

I'm looking forward to seeing Mungo and Tittchy and Fluffo give those Wally Bongers a damn good thrashing what what...

Well, I could make a reasonable stab at explaining the offside rule because at least I understand it myself. This Duckworth-Lewis mullarkey seems to be completely shrouded in mystery, in that I've never heard anyone attempt to provide any explanation as to how it works. To be fair though, the old method consisted of just saying "right, we have time for 22 overs. After that number of overs, the team batting had scored 102, so that's your target". Suppose the D/L method gets a bit closer to providing a fair challenge.

Oooh it's so much nicer than the one that burned down! Ionic columns and a spa and oil paintings of the players in togas? Me likey.

I miss KK tho :(

Less than 24 hours to go...

Is this going to go away once the Ashes ends?

I'm not sure you understood my tone. I'm a supporter of the pavilion, I just don't want it to disappear once the Ashes are over.

I did understand your tone. I was giving you the options of what will happen to the pavilion once the Ashes are over. It will either "go away" or be e-burned to the e-ground like the last one.

No one's going to deny me the pleasure of deleting it

Well, they might if they kill me, but then I'lll request it be closed in my honour

What's the point in deleting it after The Ashes?

Why can't we have just one big Ashes thread?

feck off you whining cnuts?

Seriously, I put it up to a vote, which you were all allowed to participate in. The idea being that no one would be able to bitch about whatever the outcome was. What more do you fecking want?

Duckworth Lewis is easy. It just estimates current run-rate against what the over side scored, and then it works out who would have won had a full amount of overs been played.

So basically, you just guess who would have won the game? Seems fair.

I'm inventing the Owen Hargreaves method for football. From now on, instead of penalty shootouts, a panel of FIFA representatives simply decide who would have won, based on which team's players have the most German looking hair.

Yes but the Duckworth Lewis system utilises maths (this thing invented by some tard involving numbers) but your system involves defining German Hair.

Could you define Germanic hair under pressure?

Excuse me a second...

Right, so anyway; No, I couldn't, but luckily I'm not an official FIFA repesentative, so that's none of my concern.

So having a Hitler 'tache would surmount to an instant win? I think this system has obvious qualities.

D/L is very well explained on cricinfo.com for those genuinely interested. It is the best method to use during rain-affected or other curtailed matches.
