I've only just registered, but I've been lurking for a long time (drifted over from RedIssue when it started to die....)

I'm currently writing a indie Football Game called "Awesome Soccer". It's basically a modern update of Kick Off 2 and Sensible Soccer, but with better graphics and includes the features we've got used to through games like FIFA and Pro Evolution Soccer.

I'm at the stage were I need some volunteers to test out the game out and to offer suggestions as to how it could be improved.

I'd therefore - with the forums permission - like to to do a posting on the Red Cafe forums that gives a bit of information about the game, and asks for people to post / PM me if they'd be interested in helping out with this testing.

I didn't want to post this without consent, as it goes against my own feelings about unsolicited material. However, I am genuine, and hope that it's something that would create some interest in the community.

You can find out a little bit more about the game over at http://www.red27studios.com, or if you've got any questions please give me a shout.

And finally, yes - I am a Red - hence the name of the company - Red27 Studios... :-)

Many thanks for helping test Awesome Soccer. Great news - the Alpha Demo is finally here: http://www.red27studios.com/official_alpha_download_win.php

Known Problems

  • Play as any team - but kits always Argentina v Brazil at the moment.
  • Loading time for each game is currently very long (about 30s). Please don't let this distract you from the game, I'm working on the optimisations which will resolve this.
  • Some missing player names (ie. PortugalPlayer7 etc)
  • Currently 512MB minimum RAM
  • Some Translation errors

So what would I like from you?

1) Play the game :-)

- Was it easy to install and start?
- What were your "First Impressions"?
- Do you like the menu system?
- Playing the game - could you pass, shoot, tackle intuitively?
- Did you manage to swerve the ball?
- How easy/hard was the Computer Player? Did you score?
- Did you get good performance and frame rate?
- Did you like the Graphics and Sound?
- What did you like / what's good about the game?
- And of course, the most important - what needs improving?

2) Join the newsletter at the http://www.red27studios.com homepage.

3) Submit your feedback/comments to the Forum thread here.

4) Take the extremely short Survey at http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.aspx?sm=Ig2GPeslaqL_2bPO3Khcej0Q_3d_3d

Cheers!

Okay, downloaded it and installed no problem at all.

Good points

The presentation is good and I like the use of football photographs behind the menus.

The gameplay is simple and easy to get into.

I beat Brazil 2-0 on my first game and 1-0 on my second game (the important point here being that I was engaged enough to want to play a second game)

The problems.

Text on some menus is hard to read. This could be the font choice.

As the teams entered the pitch my screen went into hyper flicker mode, but this suddenly resolved itself and didn't re-occur for the next game

The auto aim passing system works well when there is a player to pass to, but occasionally it refused to pass at all even when there was a player in my line of pass.

The ball stops rather suddenly at times as if hitting a patch of glue.

Sometimes when I hit the spacebar a player offscreen would commit a foul.

The length of a sliding tackle is also a bit too long.

The shooting system is nice and simple, but I struggled at times to shoot in the direction I wanted to as my attempts to apply aftertouch were sometimes too soon and this caused me to shoot in the wrong direction.

I hope this is useful to you. Not sure what else to say. I think you have the basis upon which to build a decent arcade style football game. I played both kick off and sensi an awful lot in the 90's and I think there is room for a game which borrows from both.

There was a kick off version called 'goal' which I actually thought got it spot on had there been the management options of SWOS. I'd love to see someone do that hint hint! :)

The worst football game I have ever played
Even the ones in Atari were better than this!
Game play suxx.
But I liked quotes displayed when the game is loading (although they tangle with each other)
I have deleted this after my first 2 games, and will never play it again.

Thanks

oh dear. If you can't be constructive and helpful then I wonder why you bothered to post at all.

The guy wants some constructive criticism to help him improve his game, he isn't claiming to have created the world's greatest football game.

He did call it 'awesome'...

He wanted our views. I bothered to download and play it, so Im entitled to give my views about this 'Awesome' game ...

He also wanted constructive views which might indicate areas of the game that could be improved.

You are of course entitled to be as unpleasant as you want to, but you might want to consider how helpful your comments would be if you were the person on the receiving end of them.

let's be fair.the guy wants beta testers and yet has put a price on the product....united fan - that's an angle. Free advertising etc

From a marketing perspective, shouldn't there be a list of what is so original about it? What is to stop people just downloading old games and playing them - that have already been tested and run perfect and are free.....

I know it's cynical but the guy hasn't even responded to any of the comments so I wouldn't pay for it and i'd even call it opportunist

but if you enjoy it -that's all that matters. Just be sure your paying for something that offers something unique because the price is $19.95 which is quite costly under the circumstances

Actually just to add I always like the reviews:

"Absolutely fantastic - it's so much fun! The aftertouch system works brilliantly - the leap-out-of-your-seat joy when you score your first super swerve goal is - ahem - Awesome!"
Anthony J Jones

can any of you that played it, say that?...if i read that and paid 10 pounds for a product that's beta....honestly. The internet would die

Just for the sake of clarity, the reason the fella can't respond to comments in here is because he hasn't yet been promoted from the newbies.

He is responding personally to folk via pm at the moment.

I hope this helps.

The Beta he is asking you to test is.

And anyone who has nothing to say other than uselss negative crap shouldn't bother.
