Criteria:

- Budget of £400 to £500
- Must be bigger than 32"
- Preferabley Samsung

Please explain to me (in dumbed-down retard language):

- The difference between plasma and LCD and which is better for what
- The difference between 720p and 1020i HD and which is better for what
- The difference between 1000:1 contrast and 15000:1 contrast

So, my missus and I need a TV for our bedroom, but we're both a little behind on our homework. The last tele I bought was a 21" piece of shit for £150 about 9 years ago. We already have a massive Samsung plasma (I think) downstairs and the missus is adamant we must buy Samsung again. I understand this kind of thread has been done to death but I really don't care as I'm far more important than other people and would greatly appreciate any help you could give me. If you could also tell me your penis measurements so I can compare them to mine own that would be fantastic.

Oh, and we'll probably be buying from a high street retailer rather than online as we have cash and want it straight away, so any ebay stuff is not really useful.

Wank you very much.

1080p looks much better than 720p, but you will only see the difference at certain distances (Weaste has a graph).

Hope this helps.

LCD better for smaller screens... about 37 and lower, plasma better for larger, plasma has burn in, LCD doesn't. Umm, plasma going to be replaced in next couple of years by laser technology TV.

720p is HD, but not full HD, it's progressive scan which is better than interlaced scan or whater

1080i is a better res HD pic, but is interlaced, so feck that, look for 1080p.

Look around the forum for the chart which shops when you start to notice the difference from SD, to 720p, to 1080p and ideal viewing ranges, was posted the other day and I cba to find atm.

Contrast ratio is what it says, the levels of contrast the colours will reach and shit..

Note: This was a very quick post, I am thick, but that's the general idea pretty much. Anyone who comes and corrects me is a complete dickhead and only has internet friends.

I heard your team isn't back from Belgium yet. I'm sure one of the squad has a nice TV you can borrow for a while.

I looked at that, and couldn't understand why it's cheaper than tv's that are 32" but have a higher HD thingymajig; does it really make that much difference?

Oh and the difference between a 720 and 1080 is absolutely nothing. (coming from an experienced view)

Spammy you girthrocker if your last TV was nine years old anything you buy now is the Enterprise! And no it doesnt make much difference, if you watch DVD the picture is going to be brilliant, same goes for PS3 and if you watch TV well that all dependes on the quality of signal those bastards are sending.

HD ready doesn't mean it's feckin HD I dont think...

Doesn't say its 720p, 1080i, 1080p. So my reckoning is it can receive HD channels or whatever but downscales to the 480 shit?

feck knows. I'm talking out my arse probably.

Haven't been that impressed with Samsung LCD's to be honest, the sound is often poor on them as the speakers are hidden on most models. I'd go with a Toshiba, Sony or Sharp.

Stuff Samsung Spammy. Panasonic is the way forward. I have the Panny 37THPX80 and it really is teh mutts nuts. I spent 3 months researching and reading reviews before purchasing. I wanted a TV to watch good quality films on an sport. I am not a gamer so that wasn't important. I won't have HD until they release more channels and drop the price so I wanted a TV on which SD pictures look just like HD and one on which there is no motion blur when watching high speed sport especially football. Since buying the TV, 4 of my friends and my father in law have bought the exact same one after seeing the image quality.

Check out this link for the latest reviews.

Thing is though, we have Samsung wall mounts from last year worth over 100 squids, and it's mainly going to be used for gaming (me nipping up stairs for a bit of sneaky PS3 alone time). Plus the missus is a massive brand whore and when it comes to things like this I'll agree just for a quiet life, I am getting a massive TV and PS3 out of it after all.
