Whats a good HDMI cable to hook up my PS3 to my new panasonic flatscreen of joy!
I see all sorts of prices and all sorts of types, i dont want to spend 9million quid on something,
any help appreciated,.... also what kind of optical cable should I use to hook the PS3 into the aul surround sound

HDMI, just get from GAME for a tenner, has worked fine for me. Don't let the shop assistants try to fob you off with all this 'gold-plated' nonsense either. They wanted £50 off me for one of those!

I went to tesco and bought one for 6 euro does the job for moi so im delighted

Any HDMI cable should do as long as the PS3 is not too far from the TV. Your sound question is difficult to answer as I don't know your setup. HDMI carries audio if you want it to. Does your amp take HDMI in and have HDMI out? Does your TV have optical out? Do you just want to go from PS3 to amp direct with optical? etc.

HDMI supports 7.1 PCM (on PS3), optical only 5.1.

I've bought $15 HDMI cables and I've bought $80 HDMI cables. To be honest, I couldn't tell the difference.

It's not just the gold plating, it's also the quality of the cable itself.

maybe 1 in 10 could tell the difference between a shit cable and an expensive one. Save your money for something that truly matters. Most of the price is markup. The cost to produce most of those high end cables are about 20 pounds they just like to charge 50 to any sucker who will buy it.
