Haye vs Ruiz

Lance Uppercut

It's a big fight featuring a British fighter, so I think it warrants it's own thread. And because it's taking place in England, perhaps we can entice some of the casual fans to watch/discuss it, as it is being screened at a reasonable hour.

Predictions? Ruiz is a vastly experienced spoiler, who hasn't been KO'd since the 19 second massacre at the hands of David Tua. He has lost a couple of dodgy decisions over the years, gone 1, 1 and 1 with Holyfield (and managed to drop him) and has arguably the best resume at Heavyweight today.

I'll go with Haye KO4. Too fast, and hits too hard. However, he has chin issues, so a Ruiz win is certainly not out of the question. It would horrify me, though, as it could lead to yet another Ruiz/Valuev shitfest. Hopefully Haye wins, looks devastating, and makes a fight with a Klit. Preferrably Wlad. I'm not pinning my hopes on it, though, as there is a rematch clause with Valuev. Maybe some step aside money could do the trick.

Discuss.

Think Haye has too much for Ruiz, expect a pretty comfortable victory for him.

Haye's alright. Bit of a cock sometimes but most of it's for publicity.

Doubt he'll want to keep Ruiz in there any longer than he has to so I reckon he'll try and blow him out in the first 5-6 rounds. Haye will need to utilise his mobility and handspeed to make sure Ruiz doesn't turn it into his kind of fight - i.e. an ugly brawl/wrestling match type with a shitload of clinching and holding on the inside. I think it's important that Haye looks good... he got a lot of mainstream attention for his bout against Valuev but the fight itself was really boring. He'll start losing some of his newly acquired casual fanbase if this fight with Ruiz turns out to be another snoozefest... and believe me, if Ruiz imposes his style on Haye that's exactly what it'll be.

Still, Haye should be able to do the business. He's faster and harder-hitting than anyone Ruiz has faced in years so I expect it to be relatively straightforward. Then, with a bit of luck, a unification bout with one of the Klitschkos beckons.

Yep. For example, I read pre the Valuev fight, that he was only making money from the PPV subscriptions, so he needs to get out there and sell the fight

I detest PPV, I understand it for massive fights but no way would I spend £15 on this.

How does gobbing off about how one-sided it'll be, how your going to KO the opponent, how your streets ahead of him going to help sell the fight?

If we listened to that dipstick, we might aswell not bother subscribing or turning up as it'll be a battering

He's a Ihni binni dimi diniwiny anitaime with too high an opinion of himself.

I can't wait for the day he gets smashed in his motormouth and down to the canvas

You must despise Ali. Since he insulted, denigrated and abused his opponents more than any fighter in history.

I like Haye. He's a bit of a cockend but the HW division could use someone with some charisma and personality, needs some serious freshening up

WBA heavyweight champion David Haye and challenger John Ruiz took to the scales this afternoon ahead of their title showdown in Manchester, England tomorrow night. Champion Haye looked in magnificent shape and tipped the beam at 222lbs (15 stone 12lbs) while Ruiz, who refused to take his t-shirt off, weighed 231 lbs (16 stone 7 lbs). The fight is being broadcast live in the UK on Sky Box Office.

Haye looks to be in ridiculous shape.

I'm not sure what to make of Haye, he has cofidence (and arrogance) in abundance, he does seem to have a decent punch on him, combined with pretty nice speed - I just can't help but feel theres anyone actually very decent in the weight group, that yokel Giant retard fella for example is just a mountain with two fists.

I thought this

But then I watched a couple of interviews AFTER the Valuev fight, and he was still being a cnut about him... I don't like that. We all understand the nature of the game in build up, but show a bit of contrition afterwards eh? Thought it was a poor show myself. Things like that usually mean it's not just for show or publicity, and in fact that you really are a cock

Wouldn't say that to his face obviously

On a more comical note, Roid Jones (41) is rematching Hopkins (45) tomorrow night, too. It's "only" 17 years since they first fought.

The "fight" is a complete joke, obviously, with Roid coming off being KO'd in one by The Green Machine. And yet, I don't doubt more people will pay to watch this shitfest than Haye/Ruiz. A sad indictment of the current state of the sport.

The truth is, though, I just wanted an excuse to post this pic of Hopkins' enormous head.

Yeh, maybe, perhaps he should show some more respect, but I guess at this stage he is still building the interest in himself...I'd be disappointed if he was still doing it in a couple of fights time, as really there'll be no need, especially if he gets Ruiz out of there quickly tonight

Haye looked fantastic at the weigh-in, he's put on a lot of muscle. Let's just hope it doesn't detract from any of his explosive speed.

someone pm me a sopcast link please? Much appreciated if you could!

So, whats the story with this Ruiz lad then? Should this be a stroll in the park?

Haye will win, he's a different class tonight

This Ruiz guy has been very durable during his career, so if he gets him out of there early, it will be very impressive in my opinion, even if Ruiz is getting on a bit now

I think Haye will win in about the 7th

He looks like a big unit.

Looks like this might be quite good. Hopefully its not a let down. Come on Haye!

Ruiz is fecked, brilliant first round by Haye so far
