Just wondering if any caftards have heard of this as it's held in my home town, Hay-on-Wye, which any other week of the year is inhabited by about 2500 people but for thiese 10 days its estimated 100,000 people visit?

It's basically as it sounds with lots of authors coming to promote there books and boring stuff like that but then there is many other things like today for example i managed to have my photo taken with the premier league trophy, tomorrow Chris Evans is doing his radiuo 2 breakfast show from the site along with David Walliams, Jack Dee and Tim Minchin are here and a few years ago Gordon Brown(before he was prime minister) and Bill Clinton (after he was president) gave talks. Its also being advertised on Sky as Sky arts are covering it.

So was just wondering if any caftards had heard of this or are even coming, long shot i know?

Bill Clinton actually called it the woodstock of the mind.

That makes you Welsh. Just. Unlucky. ;)

I'd never heard of the place until I Googled it. Looks pretty but I'm guessing that it is rather dull most of the time.

Hay on Wye is a lovely spot. Never been to the book festival and not likely to this time, but I'd love to go at some point

A version of it is held every year in my city. If your into the literature scene it's a fantastic festival. I have listened to loads of interviews and conversations with brilliant writers, journos, film directors, nobel laureates and muscians over the years. Usually a good band or two as well. Good festive atmosphere for a few days, earnest young cutie intellectuals always up for partying and whatnot, though a bit of an older artsy fartsy crowd in general.

Sounds like it's much smaller than where you're at, as it only lasts 3 days here

That means i live in Wales. Just ;)

Fortunatly i was born in England unfortunatly it was Wolverhampton.

It is a nice town, crustanoid, but as you said Wibble it can get very quiet and boring 51 weeks of the year.

I used to live around the area and it has to be said it's the most english welsh town I've ever come across. I've been a few times (mostly to catch Bill Bryson) Also loved the Hay on Fire night as well. Does it stil have the book shelves out in the open with honesty payment boxes?

Where by did you live? Yeah it still has the bookshelves but the castle has been bought along with the bookshop, and you are right about it being an english welsh town with one example being that there's no rugby posts and never been a rugby team yet the football team dates back to 1880s.

I've been wanting to go to the How The Light Gets In festival for a few years. It seems absolutely brilliant. Is it basically two festivals running at the same time in a very, very small village?
