Rio Ferdinand has admitted he is becoming increasingly frustrated at the stop-start nature of his Manchester United career.

Ferdinand: Injury blow
(MikeEgerton/Empics)
The 23-year-old former West Ham star will miss an emotional return to his old Upton Park stamping ground tomorrow after being ruled out for at least three weeks with a torn thigh muscle.

Ferdinand was a virtual ever-present with both the Hammers and Leeds but has now suffered three separate injuries since his record £29.3million move to Old Trafford.

this season is the worst i can ever remember for injuries to key players and last season was also full of injuries though not as bad as this year.

why?

is it just bad luck?

all i ever read is ruud out, rio out, keane out, butt out, barthez out, wes out, giggs out, etc

what the feck is going on?

Seems very fishy to me... seems that they're preparing themselves for the CL final as well as the end of the league. It's much better to hear that someone is injured NOW rather than him being injured at a crucial moment. Don't take me wrong but I think that SAF wants all his players to be ready by december.

Agree mate, some of the ops at the start of the season seemed to be more precautionary and to prevent more major problems occuring later in the season - like they were just carrying niggling injuries and knocks. Would have been better to stagger them out a bit, particularly Butt should have been made to carry it if at all possible.

i think the rotation policy needs to be fecked off every time a player gets rested he comes back fecking injured!

was thinking the same thing...

all these injuries.. surely they can't all be down to bad luck? <img src="confused.gif" border="0">

maybe players not fully resting before they comeback...

Becks had a slight injury against So'ton...yet we didn't rest him.. now he's out for 3 weeks...

erm players on the piss all the time like wes and rio dont fecking help

inept medical staff, why wasnt keane operated when he left the world cup instead of when the season started on they knew about the injury last season!

training - has something changed there, there seems to be a lot of muscle injuries.

Obviously there was logic (that failed) behind it.

I just don't like throwing accusations. We've had injury crisis before but it didn't mean we've done something wrong to cause it.

Correct me if I'm wrong but aren't operations in general the last resort? You don't open someone up unless absolutely necessary.

I thought that Keano wasn't operated on after the world cup because it was thought that rest would help and possibly remove the need for an operation.

That used to be the case, but Butt, and Rio's previous injury, were both precautionary and exploratory operations.

I don't know if it's true but I've heard that the medical service at United isn't good. The journalist who said that declared that it was surprising from such a big club, with modern fittings. The fact that we have too many players injured seems to confirm that.
