I think we should foke 12mill on this kid he is absolutley fantastic in my opinion. He has everything skill/power/speed and showed this when he marked giggs all game keeping him fairly quiet.

BUT I DONT THINK WE WILL SIGN ANOTHER MIDFIELDER UNLESS VERON GOES, WHICH I SERIOUSLY HOPE HE DOESN'T. I RECKON HE WILL BE QUALITY NEXT YEAR, ANOTHER ROBERT PIRES SITUATION, I REMEMBER ARSENAL FANS CALLING FOR HIM TO BE AXED AFTER HIS FIRST SEASON, NOW LOOK @ HIM!

Hargreeves isn't United standard; wouldn't put him in the side before Nicky Butt or even Luke Chadwick.

Return to the topic. I afraid now Bayen won't let him go for any reasonable price. I just hope we have gone for him two years ago. I'm not saying bull shit here, because may be I'm the very first fans here who recognize his talent. The first time I saw this lad play was in a pre-season friendly vs Bayen, before the start of the 2000 season. He came on as a substitute in the 2nd half, he played without fear and without any sign of out of class in a star-packed midfield of Bayen and us, when he was only 18! We could get him for no more than 2 million at that time. That's the job of our scouts to spot this kind of talent, yet they were really disappointing in these few years in terms of finding raw talent.

He isn't even better than Fortune ffs!
You claim our scouts were wasting away when actually Hargreeves coming in would have done little more than just stop the likes of Chadders coming thru and our promising youngsters wouldn't be able to mature. Atm Bayern wouldn't let Hargreeves go for the same amount if not more than the likes of Joe Cole/D'Alessandro/Gerrard.

Yes, now Bayen won't let Hargreaves leave easily, that's why I hope we have signed him earlier, when he was a virutally unknown, but not now -- his price has become quite unreasonable now. And you said in the previous post that Chadwick is better than him, then why you afraid that if he come it will stop Chadwick to break through? If Chadwick is good enough no one can stop him to break thru, so I think we don't need to worry about that.

Could you justify spending upwards of 12m on a player who would struggle to make the bench at United? It just does not make sense if Richardson, Timm etc are brighter prospects.

If he is good enough to start for Bayen he is good enough to at least make the bench for us. But 12m is too expensive, which I agree. We should spend the money very carefully this summer, because we will need to spend quite a lot to fix our defence and also buy a backup striker.

Why he is a starter at Bayern in a mystery to me. We don't need strengthening in that area of the field. We are sorted in midfield for the forseeable future, and it would be a waste of 10-20m on a player like Hargreeves.

Do you really expect us to buy maybe five players this summer. I think we will bring in maybe a striker and two defenders and thats it. Alternatively Alex might save his cash and buy one goalie, one striker and one defender. But those who think we are going to make five or even six signings this summer have got it all wrong - think how long it would take for what would almost be a completely new team to gel.

Granted a few players will be leaving ((Blanc?), Irwin, May, Van Der Gouw etc but with the exception of Blanc none of them are first team regulars, some of the younger fringe players will most likely take up their roles.

Five or Six signings? You're having a laugh!
 
For information guys ... if you haven't some of his famous interviews since making his name in CL last season ...

HE has stated that Man Utd is one of the team he HATE MOST !!! <img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laugh Out Loud]" /> ...since that year ( someone enlighten ... I forget the exact ) when Man Utd beat Bolton out of their ass ... Hargreeves Senior was a player with Bolton for your info ... and this kid has supported them for a long time now ...

If Bayern ever want to sell him ... I would hope Bolton getting him for the sentiment (Sam ... you need some players do you? )... and then we can have Nolan for a much cheaper price ..
