Happy Birthday Denis Law.
The one and only true King of the Stretford End. A Legend.

Denis Law (born February 24, 1940, in Aberdeen, Scotland) is a retired Scottish football player, who enjoyed a long and successful career as a striker from the 1950s to the 1970s.

Law's career as a football player began at Second Division Huddersfield Town in 1956. After four years at Huddersfield, Manchester City signed him for a transfer fee of £55,000, setting a new British record.[1] Law spent one year there before Torino bought him for £110,000, this time setting a new record fee for a transfer between an English and an Italian club.[2] Although he played well in Italy, he found it difficult to settle there and signed for Manchester United in 1962, setting another British record transfer fee of £115,000.[3]

He is best known for the eleven years that he spent at United, where he scored 236 goals in 409 appearances and was nicknamed The King[4] and The Lawman by supporters. He is the only Scottish player in history to have won the prestigious European Footballer of the Year award in 1964, and helped his club win the First Division in 1965 and 1967. Law left Manchester United in 1973 and returned to Manchester City for a season, then represented Scotland in the 1974 FIFA World Cup. Law played for Scotland a total of 55 times and jointly holds the Scottish international record goal tally with 30 goals.[5] Law is also United's second highest goalscorer behind Bobby Charlton.

A statue of Denis Law stands on the Stretford End concourse as a lasting monument to his impact on Old Trafford, and is a fitting tribute to one of United’s true living legends.

The ultimate goalscorer, his flair, spirit and genuine love for the game made him a hero of a generation and he revelled in the nickname The King. His reign lasted for 13 years.

The first time United fans saw Law score for the Reds was on 18 August 1962, on his debut against West Bromwich Albion. He was to repeat the feat a further 236 times for United, many of those celebrated with what became his trademark - arm in the air, hand clutching his sleeve, finger pointing at the sky. It was a move aped in the playground by thousands of boys up and down the country, no matter their allegiance

His great friend George Best described him as: “Up there with the all-time greats. Electric. As a bloke and as a pal he’s different class.” Thousand of United fans will echo those sentiments.

Happy Birthday to the King......

My dad knew him to talk too through his job years ago and though he was one my dad's hero's he always said that Denis was a real nice guy to talk too and wasn't stand offish like some other players he knew or did jobs for.

Happy Birthday Denis.
What a guy.

This is one of my favourite pictures. I was going to post it in this thread. I post it all over the place. Sums the King up perfectly.

I love Denis Law. I can't believe he's 68. The bloke was a fecking genius on the football pitch and by all accounts is also a really nice bloke.

Happy Birthday Denis and thanks for everything.

Three things:

1) 68! Bloody nora - I didn't realise Denis was that old!
2) I would have loved Law to have been around in the modern era. I think every fan (especially kids) loves to have a player on their team that scores shit loads of goals.
3) Happy Birthday!!
