Manchester United miss out on the next Romelu Lukaku
Hamidu Imran has opted to join Anderlecht despite interest from Manchester United

Manchester United have lost the race for Belgium's latest striker prodigy - an 11-year-old dubbed the next Romelu Lukaku, reports the Daily Mail.

The Red Devils attempted to bring Hamidu Imran to their famous youth academy but he decided to remain in Belgium leaving his current team Lierse to join Anderlecht.

The move echoes that of Chelsea star Lukaku, who joined Anderlecht as a 13-year-old before moving to Stamford Bridge in 2011 in a deal worth a reported £20m.

Imran's pace and power, far exceeding his peers of a similar age, make him a similar cut to the powerhouse Chelsea striker, who is currently on loan at Everton.

Manchester United were quick to realise the massive potential of the 11-year-old and representatives worked hard to bring him to Old Trafford but failed to do so.

The news highlights another significant transfer window failure for David Moyes, who tried in vain to sign a number of established stars in the summer, including Cesc Fabregas and Thiago Alcantara.

All hope is not lost, however, as Manchester United will continue to monitor Imran's progress at the Belgian outfit with the hope of signing him when he turns 16.

Such a move is similar to that of Adnan Januzaj, who was brought in from Anderlecht two and a half years ago and has since flourished at Old Trafford.

Reports have come out in Belgium in the past few days that after bone tests he is not actually 11 as his passport claimed but is actually 15.

Reading between the lines this article is basically saying Lukaku is probably about 40 years old.

Here is Lukaku playing under 10.

What's the problem? This just means he'll be the BPITW four years earlier.

The questions around Lukaku's age are silly. He's born and raised in Belgium, not some African country. He went through the whole educational system. I think it would have been noticed pretty early if there was something wrong with his birth certificate.

Also, when you hear him in interviews around the time when he was playing in Belgium, you can really notice what a child it really still was.
