Haaland at City | Signs new 9.5 year contract

Does that not mean his 900k a week needs to be amortised in half the time so they technically have 1.8m per week to deal with for PSR?
No, it’s just regarding the transfer fee I think.

Previously if you bought a player for £100m and gave him a ten year contract the annual amortization of the fee was £10m. Something Chelsea took advantage of to absurd degrees to do a lot of business in a short time. Now the amortization is limited to 5 years, meaning the annual amortization would be £20m in that same scenario. You can still give the player a ten year contract though.

People who still think they are getting any serious punishment really are deluded. They can do whatever they want and they will continue to do so.

I really can't imagine they've gone to all this trouble for it only to end up in a slap on the wrist. They'll look absolutely toothless if that's what happens.

So strange. Must be some sort of release clause in there, not even Messi or Ronaldo signed these sort of contracts.

Either he really loves it there or he can't leave because City have him by the balls financially.

Like Pep I think it's the latter.

The biggest indicator yet that they've avoided major punishment. Along with Peo staying on and the deals they are doing in Jan, forget about it.

Yeah I think so too. The gloves are off now, they can do what they want. Decade long contracts! Buy who they want! Sell nobody!

If Real Madrid could afford his wages, he would have been off there in a heartbeat. But only Saudi Arabia could afford him, and he aint going there at the tender age of 24. City have paid him the sort of salary that 3 decent players could earn at a top club, and nobody else is ever doing that, with the current sanctions.

Why the desperation from City to tie him down for 9 and a half years? He has shown this season that they often suffer with him up front as he's one-dimensional and offers very little off the ball. Why would they sign themselves up to another decade of that? I'd imagine a lot of City fans aren't best pleased with this news.

It would have been £150m this year before the new contract was signed which I'd say is pretty reasonable going off what top and even not so top players have been going for recently. But you're right, I wouldn't call that one pretty low. Just not stupid high like the clauses in Spain. That price was due to decrease again in 2026 though. He'll surely have something similar set up, perhaps with higher clauses this time, but he's never had unobtainable release clauses.

They were strategic about it in the past so that they could force lower transfer fee But higher wages.

What? A lot of fingers were pointed at him during their losing run and there was a lot of talk as to whether they'd be better off with a more well-rounded striker. Is that all forgotten now that he's bagged a couple of goals vs West Ham and Leicester?

That talk was [a word we cannot use on here anymore. Closest I can come to is incredibly ill-informed]

I mean, he's already a multi-millionaire.
Def. Its been years ago since he featured in the top 100 list in Norway, so we’re talking £100mill++. Considering the investments They Are doing abroad, and his father relocating to switzerland to avoid Norwegian taxes, i would easily triple that amount now. He’ll bag another 300 goals and retire a billionaire

What does this mean? He's a top player and could make a fortune at other clubs too.

I think they're both trapped there with whatever shenanigans go on in the background.

Why else would they stay when they could make enough money for bigger and better clubs elsewhere?

Yeah this is kind of a game changer. I was thinking with the signings so far this Jan that they were preparing for the championship or something. But this new deal all but confirms it’s not going to be points deductions leading to relegation but probably a lengthy transfer ban. Which is absolutely poxy.

So why are City carrying on like its business as usual? Doesn't make much sense unless they know they are only getting a fine and a small points deduction

Good point actually.

Wait, he never won top scorer in Germany?
Lewandowski did break records and even Andre Silva (playing for Frankfurt) outscored him in the league.

Haaland scores at a higher rate in the PL than in the BL (at least during his first season, didn't check how it looks now) and is the prime example why the idea "Players only score half as much in the PL than in the BL" is just stupid, that we always read on this forum.

So the only thing he has won is indeed the cup and a bunch of MotM. That's it. Plenty to win here.

On the other hand that is still more than Harry Kane has won so far...

I just don't understand what "trapped" means. Do you think he is implicated in some kind of illegal financial activities?

Haaland has been there two full seasons and has already won a bunch of trophies and broken all kinds of records. He also has the connection to the club through his father. This deal secures high income for a decade, and if they do get punished I'm sure he has an out in the contract somehow.

Don't think it's all that weird, to be honest. The biggest question mark is probably what happens once Pep leaves, which I imagine will be soon.

People hoping for City still to get punished... there is no way Haaland signs a 9 year deal now, if they dont know the outcome.

There is clear signs that City know they are cleared of all charges.

Yes. But on the other hand, Pep signing his extension sent them into freefall for a while. Maybe this will do the same. One can always hope.

Of course there is. He just needs a clause that he can leave if City get relegated in that contract for example.

I guess they might be doing these contracts with loan clauses and they can just loan the stars out while they hammer the lower leagues with their academy players, recouping wages from the loans? Or they just don't think anything significant is coming in terms of punishment.

Well in theory that all sounds good but Ornstein has tweeted saying all release clauses are out.

Also, as an agent, you wouldn't recommend your client to sign a contract if the decision is due in 2 months time.
